Does this memory loss seem concerning or normal?

I bumped into an old colleague the other day, who I'd worked with for several months. I hadn't seen him in over a year, but i could not remember his name at all. I had to look on the company website to find out what his name was.

I worked at a school for a few months on a casual basis. The last time I was there was July 2021. I was thinking of it this morning and I could not remember the name of the school at all, but it eventually came to me.

I went to another city the other week for a day trip. I was in a clothes shop and all of a sudden had a complete blip and had to remember which city I was in.

I am 31, can this sort of memory loss happen in 30s? I swear this never used to be the case, I felt like I could remember everything.

I once couldn’t find my way home from town. I was late 20’s. Turned out to be due to an underactive thyroid.

In my 40’s when I couldn’t remember my phone number or which way to drive to work suddenly it was a Vitamin D and B12 deficiency.

I did have a few other symptoms but memory issues were very alarming. I thought I had developed early Alzheimer’s in my 40’s. Worrying as DGM had Alzheimer’s.

I can completely relate and I actually worried myself stupid that I actually had some serious early onset dementia or something. I’m talking serious brain fog, can’t remember what I was doing 5 minutes ago, sometimes struggle to even string a sentence together forgetting simple words, peoples names etc.. I’m 44yo and after talking to a colleague about it, she told me to get my B12 checked as she had similar issues as well as other symptoms such as fatigue etc.. I took her advice and found that I was actually very deficient in B12 (pernicious anaemia) and now have to have a jab every 3 months which really helps. I always know when I’m due my next one as the symptoms and brain fog start coming back. It might be worth getting checked. I’m now blaming any new memory loss symptoms on perimenopause …

I've done things like this occasionally too. Was in a night out with work colleagues and someone offered me a lift home. They asked for my address...and I just couldn't remember it. The words just wouldn't come to me. I'd only had one drink but I was worried I looked pissed out of my brain!
I also occasionally have to really 'search' for words.
