Feeling overwhelmed with everything

Not really a AIBU I suppose. I just feel really overwhelmed with everything at the moment. Nothing mentally except I do have insomnia. It's just the usual life things that I feel are all falling out of control with no structure. Does anyone have advice on how to make my life more easy and less stressful.

When did your insomnia start? How old are you?

StarryNightSparkles · 19/02/2022 01:39

I am early 40s and the insomnia started before Christmas.

My bet would be peri-menopause, op. Insomnia is a very, very common symptom, and quite often one of the first.

Aquamarine1029 · 19/02/2022 01:43

My peri started at 39, and my first issue was insomnia. It started out of the blue, and I had never had sleep issues before.

avamiah · 19/02/2022 01:44

I’m 49 and have started to experience insomnia and I think it could be the start of the menopause.
That’s my excuse anyway.

haikyew · 19/02/2022 05:09

Sleep is important
I take Seroquel to sleep
It works like a charm

Momijin · 19/02/2022 05:14

I recommend magnesium for insomnia.

Could you write a list of what is overwhelming you and next to each item decide if it has to be dealt with and with what priority. The ones that don't need dealing with until you have time/money, cross out.

See what you could delegate and then put a timeline against each one.

If you have a clear plan, then you won't have to keep mulling it over whilst you're trying to sleep.

Hi, sorry you're feeling overwhelmed Brew

I've been thinking a lot about burnout recently myself. I agree with the others about insomnia, perimenopause may be a cause. But also life is loooong (if we are lucky) and ups and downs come.

However I personally go into a short period of hibernation and self-care when it all gets a bit much. I do only the essential jobs, reduce social events and focus on activities that are enjoyable/soothing (for me that is walking, crafting, cooking, playing games).

I write a plan for my time off, I try to slow down, I try to remember that life is not a competition or a test. I basically put myself on a retreat at home.

For someone more extrovert than me, they might prefer to swap crafting for meeting friends - you have to know what energises you. If you don't know, experiment and have a think about how you feel afterwards.

I think the world is full of burnt out people, after covid - you are not alone.

labyrinthlaziness · 19/02/2022 05:46

I have been reading the book 'wintering' recently - not yet finished - but that is helping me just now.

StarryNightSparkles · 19/02/2022 08:32

Thank you @labyrinthlaziness for some good ideas. I think that's what it is I am burnt out with work, housework, cooking etc etc. Your right I need to stop and reflect and see how I can be more efficient with my time. @Momijin think a list is a good idea then priorities and work my way down. I just feel like there isn't enough hours in the day at the moment. @haikyew I've never heard of that. What is it?

@avamiah sorry to read you have insomnia also. If it is menopause hope you are ok and it's not rough for you.

@Aquamarine1029 I don't think it is menopause. It's not the first time I've had insomnia but will keep an eye on things. I've made an appointment with my gp about it.

Thanks everyone for your help 💐

Is work really busy? Are there other things going sideways? When there is lots of adrenaline going round your system it can be hard to sleep properly

StarryNightSparkles · 19/02/2022 09:26

@Comtesse yeah work is really busy for both of us just now. In January I was so good at self care/slowing down for the night before bed but that's went right out the window.

Yoga nidra helps my insomnia.

labyrinthlaziness · 19/02/2022 18:06

Yoga nidra looks interesting, thanks @Mercurial123

You need to prioritise this then?

StarryNightSparkles · 19/02/2022 18:11

Yeah I definitely do @labyrinthlaziness will start even doing 10 mins before bed again and build it up. @Mercurial123 never seen that type of yoga before will look into it. Thank you.
