Clearblue fertility tests…

I’m reading the Clearblue digital ovulation test kit instructions. AIBU in thinking this wording is a bit presumptive/1950s?

“... And don’t forget to involve your partner. Becoming parents is an exciting time for you both.”

And

“Making love on high and peak fertility days maximises your chance of getting pregnant.”

AIBU to think they should just stick to the medical terms (eg sex rather than “making love”) and also not assume people trying to get pregnant have partners etc?

YABU.

It’s just pretty standard wording. Get out more Wink

Why can’t they assume people have partners?

Goodnewsbadnews · 18/02/2022 23:35

I agree with you OP...doesn't represent the modern world...

ThatsNotMyGolem · 20/02/2022 00:44

Perhaps all this "sex doesn't exist" dogma has made OP forget that two people are required to conceive a child...

Ganesh2022 · 20/02/2022 09:17

...why not be inclusive though? Other ovulation tests don't use that language...

Ganesh2022 · 20/02/2022 09:19

If nothing else, it's a bit twee, no?

Goodnewsbadnews · 20/02/2022 18:23

@Ganesh2022 exactly my point! It just seemed a bit twee to refer to “making love” and not really the business of an ovulation test kit to remind you to involve your partner as pregnancy is an exciting time. For instance I am using it to track ovulation for contraception so totally not relevant to me…nothing to do with gender debates or anything!

Also...anyone who's been trying for a while prob doesn't feel at all like they're "making love" or that any of it is exciting anymore. Maybe I have time on my hands or am being fussy...but language matters!
