To ask what is up with all these storms? Is it climate change or something?

The weather seems to be getting extreme. Storm after storm.

Climate scientists are also saying that the UK being as windy as it's always been and slightly less windy than it was 30 years ago is nothing to do with climate change.

We do need to worry about it. We need to be thinking how we stop what's going on in places like Brazil, where hundreds of people died recently because of a climate mediated event. But we don't need to worry about the UK being windy in February.

There have always been ups and downs in the weather. But climate change is making the ups and downs more extreme, and more frequent

Yes. But not in the UK.

The climate has changed it is as simple as that. Before we always got extreme weather events but not they are becoming more frequent.

Nothing we can do about it now, the time to try to make really change was probably 10-20 yrs ago.

Still a lot of stuff we can do about it now and also to stop it getting worse!

Yes climate experts have said that the change is 'baked in' now i.e the damage is done and will continue to get worse over the next few decades and there's nothing we can do about that.

What government needs to focus on is taking measures now to prevent it getting much much worse. I despair at the attitudes of some who deny this is happening. There is a group (similar to the ERG ) in the Conservative party who are now focussed on denying climate change and encouraging government to reverse any measures to reduce carbon footprint. They're arguing that people will be poorer and suffer rising energy prices - as if they've ever given a shit about the cost of living before. They're in the pockets of the oil companies

I’m sure I remember there being a lot more thunder and lightning type storms when I was young (late 90s, early 2000s) than there are now. We did have a crazy storm a few years ago that was non stop thunder and lightning, literally, no pause in between, just a constant rumble and flashes every few seconds for hours on end but with no wind and rain. The weather is definitely changing. I was just thinking recently that we seem to have less of the transitional spring/autumn weather than we used to, I’ve got a lot of clothes that don’t get worn any more because it goes from too hot to too cold so quickly

Storm Franklin is arriving on Monday now - how many storms is that in one week?

KillinMoon · 20/02/2022 19:02

WE'RE ALL DOOMED

Well, it’s not the best news for insurance premiums…
