AIBU for traffic.

I'm a mail biter. Hate hate hate the habit. Just put some false ones on and thinking about all the women I know from work, school drop off, neighbours s, and I'm sure none of them are nail biters. But then how would I know?

AIBU to assume I'm the minority
AINBU to realise that loads of women wear some sort of false nails, gels, tips etc

I don't bite my nails but I do keep them trimmed right down so none of the nail is poking over the skin ifyswim. I can't stand having the feel of my natural nails like that, they are weak and tend to break or get little chunks missing out of them really easily.

I keep them polish free most of the time and get them done for special occasions. I enjoy false extensions sometimes, but simple gel polish or shellac on natural lengths are more practical for me and don't build up any dirty underneath.

I do have a nail polish and top coat that I do myself at home if I want to make myself feel a bit pampered without spending at the salon. It's just a white shimmery gloss, I do two coats and my nails end up looking like pearls, iridescent in the light. I love it and it is forgiving with things like chips or bad application, more so than darker colours.

I have to say that as a shop worker during the pandemic; one of the grossest things was having a girl/woman put money into my hand with false nails so long they would graze my palm.

Just URGH! And you can bet they also ignored the hand-sanitisers...

I was a chronic nail biter well into my 30s. Then I randomly saw an ad for a home nail technician and she introduced me to builder gel. 2 years on, I have consistently nice nails done every 3-4 weeks and haven’t bitten them once. I don’t like to grow them long because I think after years of biting them low, they don’t grow attached to the nail bed very high - so if one does break off, it breaks off very low and it’s painful. Builder gel all the way, for me.
