Roman blinds look great but they block out the fan light and some of the light? Venetian seem again to block out light unless you pull them right up and then there’s probably a better choice of blind. I’m sick of looking at blinds. Maybe I should go back to curtains 🤣

We have day to night blinds. They were easy to fit. If I could choose again, I 'd have a different colour - we have white and they're really bright in sunlight.

ShinyHappyPeephole · 18/02/2022 18:25

Perfect fit thermal blinds. They look fab and are practical.

thingymaboob · 18/02/2022 18:25

Blackout roller under blackout curtains

ShinyHappyPeephole · 18/02/2022 18:26

Should say "Perfect Fit" I suppose so it's clear I mean they're a brand - not just that they fit really well Grin

euniceanddudley · 18/02/2022 18:28

Interlined Roman Blinds. They don't block any window if you put them outside the recess. All my rooms have got at least two windows so I don't mind that they cover some of the windows in the recess.

Mo1911 · 18/02/2022 18:29

No blinds and no curtains. We have no one looking into us so there's no need at all.

VerbenaGirl · 18/02/2022 18:34

My DH works nights sometimes, so we have these: www.blocblinds.co.uk/window_blinds/blocout_info - not the most beautiful, but they work brilliantly.

UncomfortableBadger · 18/02/2022 18:38

We’ve installed double layer blinds in our bedroom and they’re ideal - there’s a privacy layer for the daytime which still lets the light in but a proper blackout blind for nighttime.
We bought these: www.blindsdirect.co.uk/double-roller-blinds

Tuliprain · 18/02/2022 22:28

Thanks all. I still can’t decide.

Plain blackout roller blinds with simple curtains and tie backs that are never pulled across at night. Look good in the day and the curtains prevent any light peeping around the edge at night.

I’m not overlooked either, wooden sashes with double glazed panels. Interlined blinds make such a difference to room temperature/warmth.

Same. I have dark grey which seems to work well
whatnumber · 18/02/2022 23:03

@VerbenaGirl we are looking to get a bloc blind.
Do they look awful? Did you fit them yourselves?

VerbenaGirl · 19/02/2022 08:51

@whatnumber No, they don’t look awful - it’s more that they are very plain and seemed quite stark at first (after a roman blind with a blackout roller behind it). We put two picture shelves up above the window with some small pictures, vases, etc. on, which made up for that, and now I really do love it - as it just does what you need it to do without any fuss.
My husband fitted it. He’s pretty handy, but it didn’t seem to give him much more trouble than when we have fit other types of blinds. I seem to recall the fitting instructions were really clear.

DappledThings · 19/02/2022 08:54

Curtains! I think blinds always look cold and unwelcoming. We have them in the study only.

Does it not get so cold and cause you to spend more on heating?
jeaux90 · 19/02/2022 09:04

I have wood shutters. I absolutely love them. But then I can't stand curtains or blinds.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 19/02/2022 09:04

We have 2 layers of blinds and blackout curtains. We like it pitch black to sleep in so the blind in the front is a blackout roller blind. Behind we have white Venetian blinds which even when shut let in a lot of light plus can be adjusted from fully open to closed. That blind is an arse to clean but worth it.

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/02/2022 09:06

Go back to curtains!

LadyEloise1 · 19/02/2022 09:22

Would you consider blinds that go up rather than down ?
You can pull them up however much or little you like.
It gives you great privacy but you also get light in to the room from the sky.
Luxaflex do them.
Sorry I can't do links.
Perhaps some kind poster could do a link.

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 19/02/2022 10:05

Roller blackout blind (largest one possible 3.6m) and then two Roman blinds with black out liner (each two metres). That's on the side where the sun rises, the other window is a 1.8m Roman blind

positivevibesonly22 · 19/02/2022 10:06

We just have white black out blinds - but that are not in the recess as I hate a pitch black bedroom as I sleep walk. I then just roll them completely up in the day time. Nothing else.

This is what I have in both DS rooms. They're very good too.

These were good up to the point that loft conversions became the norm. Now, they don't really have the same effect if you live in a built up area
CoastalWave · 19/02/2022 10:11

I've got plantation shutters. Love them.
