To not go for this job anymore?

Lifesense · 18/02/2022 13:51

I currently dislike my job and have managed to get an interview.

I turned up 5 minutes early and the interviewer was late by about 10 minutes, no apology or why she was late, she interviewed me for a job I didn’t apply for despite me telling her several times I didn’t apply for that job and concluded that it didn’t matter, she couldn’t photocopy my passport as the photocopier was down! She said she will be in touch by the end of the week whether I’m successful or not.

Fast forward a week, still no response. I emailed her several times to no avail so I assumed I was unsuccessful and she replies to me a week later saying I have been successful however they can’t offer me the contracted hours they offered at the interview but one with half (I’m currently working PT but want to work full time again) however I earn more at my current role despite working fewer hours. I agreed to this despite my concerns about this role and it’s been another week with no reply! I emailed my interviewer to confirm whether she’s received my last email and no reply. I called up a few times with no answer.
DH says I should call them up every ten minutes until they answer and that I should go for the job anyway as I’m unhappy in my current one but I’m not sure anymore whether to leave my current job for this one? What would you do?

Hmmm I would look for something else- thus doesn't sound promising at all!

Lifesense · 18/02/2022 13:59

@JungleJimbo I totally agree!

Stay where you are. They should be showing their best side at interview. This does not bode well.
Other work will come up - just bide your time.

PatchworkElmer · 18/02/2022 14:06

Red flags all over the place. Stay well away.

Toomanyradishes · 18/02/2022 14:15

You are highly unlikely to be happier in this role, if they are this unprofessional when they are trying to entice you in, they are likely to treat their employees unprofessionally/badly

I have made this mistake before and really regretted it

cuno · 18/02/2022 14:18

You are unhappy in your current role, but from the way this other company conduct themselves you would be just as unhappy if not unhappier in this other role. They have shown their lack of respect for you from the get go. Look for another job.

BobHadBitchTits · 18/02/2022 14:19

Bugger that.

GrandRapids · 18/02/2022 14:20

I'm not sure why you're even considering this tbh.

IsItTooHotInHere · 18/02/2022 15:07

That's all completely unprofessional, actually. I wouldn't want to work for a place like that.

jessy100 · 18/02/2022 15:21

You have my sympathy OP! I would get a really bad impression from how they have acted so far, and I wouldn't want to work for them, I had a similar experience recently. I.have been working in the same area for a while and fancied a change, so started to have a look at what was out there.

First interview I had, they tried to push the full time post, despite the fact that I had applied for the part time role. They were late interviewing me, and the person who would have been .my manager kept going off on a tangent about vague aspects of the job. I had to actually ask the Hr person who was present at the interview to tell me what my actual role would be. It was awful!!
I came away with a terrible impression. I was offered the job , but didn't take it!

Second interview. I was told I would hear within five days either way. It's been two weeks and nothing!
I've got an interview for a part time job with the NHS soon. I'm hoping that's going to be more structured, and they will let me know if I get the job of not within the time frame that they say they will! I
I have to say I have been really unimpressed with the two interviews I have had so far. I think companies forget that It's a two way process. We are judging g you as well as you judging us!

girlmom21 · 18/02/2022 15:26

Look for something else. This place sounds like a shitstorm. It would be the definition of "out of the frying pan and into the fire".

ACNHlife · 18/02/2022 15:27

Don't make the mistake of jumping out of the pan and into the fire. I did this with a job because I was in a rush to leave another. I then left the new job not long after.

Incompetence aside, it's not doing the job you want to do, the hours you want or the pay you want. Just don't bother.

If and when they ever get back to you, just ignore it.

cheekyasfish · 18/02/2022 15:28

Do not work for that company

Huge huge red flags

Keep looking. You will get something else

YellowbellyLass · 18/02/2022 15:30

If they can't be bothered when they're trying to impress you, I'd hate to think how they would be once you'd signed a contract.

crackersforcrackers · 18/02/2022 16:10

Definitely stay where you are for the moment and search for a different job, this one sounds terrible and you have't even started!

roses2 · 18/02/2022 16:40

DH says I should call them up every ten minutes until they answer

Don't do that, you'll look crazy Grin

DelphiniumBlue · 18/02/2022 16:47

Don't take a job on lower pay than what you currently get, it looks desperate and they'll treat you accordingly.
They sound very disorganised - is it even clear what job you've been offered? Have you had anything in writing?
Keep looking, it's a job hunter's market at the moment.

Armadeus · 18/02/2022 16:47

I went for an interview last monday (HCP NHS). They were 10 mins late for no apparent reason (not interviewing anyone, just chatting). No apology. Really put me off and made me wonder why the job is constantly advertised on the trust website, unfilled....

Doesn't sound great! Have they said when you would hear back, and if they'll let you know either way? I'm just curious if they all say just this, but it never actually happens.
Ormally · 18/02/2022 17:43

One of the most worrying bits of the process is that they have offered you 'the' job but on half the hours than advertised. This would suggest cuts are already behind that, and potentially could indicate an upcoming restructure or other plans of that kind on the horizon (they can't usually say anything about that at interview).
In your position I'd be tempted to accept but would advise instead: withdraw and keep going.

Jedsnewstar · 18/02/2022 17:49

Would even entertain this if you weren’t so desperate to get out of the other job. Keep applying for something else.

minniep · 18/02/2022 18:03

Don't even consider taking this job

billy1966 · 18/02/2022 18:32

From the frying pan into the fire!

Don't dream of taking a position with such a bunch of amateurs.

Keep looking.

Good luck.
