To just want to have a nice holiday?

No bickering, no moaning, no ungratefulness!!

I make the effort to organise the holiday, usually self catering accommodation for separate bedrooms, day trips, restaurants, the lot, I do it all but after getting home last night with the absolute hump, I just can't be fucked to do it anymore!

My DP is busy working so that's why I organise everything. That's fine but I do get a bit stressed about it, is everyone going to like it, be happy etc!!

My 8 year old DS moans about things and always has this way of sounding ungrateful. He winds up his sister, 2, so she screeches like a banshee that I think my ears are going to bleed.
I turn around and my DP is on his phone doing work stuff, but why?? He's meant to be off and more to the point, helping me!! I'm sorting stuff ready to go out with 2 kids hanging off me and he's on his phone!

DP lost his temper with DS yesterday morning and shouted why can't you listen to your mother? DS cried, I had a go at DP for it because that's not the way to deal with an year old. I had a lovely day for a last day all booked up and now it's just marred by that.

I'm just fed up with it all that I don't want to do it anymore!

Surely, I can't be the only one to think, it's just not worth the hassle?

My idea of a holiday is a pool, cocktails, sun and sleep not wiping snotty faces and constantly repeating myself!!

We have another similar holiday booked in for June and the thought of it is filling me with absolute dread! I just can't face it!

You don’t have to go all inclusive, you could try an apartment or a half board hotel with activities. Somewhere your 8 year old may make a friend.
We used to often go to Center Parcs in the Feb or October half term and never had a bad holiday.
Or ditch the Feb/June holidays completely in the future and book the villa holidays you like or splash out and do something like Sani resort in Greece.

We usually have self catering accommodation... BUT it's an unwritten law that we only do breakfast, sandwiches or quick fix meals. DH has to join in and DC (age 6 upwards) are responsible for washing up.

We usually have a generous budget for eating out otherwise it won't be a break for me.
As for activities, we do days so each can say what they want to do and DH / myself organise it as a shared thing.

Yes Mrs Leadbetter is my style icon...

AI isn't for everyone, but does suit younger kids. We are just moving on from that stage, but theres something lovely about kids making "holiday friends". (And while id prefer a proper menu for dinner, I bloody love a hotel buffet breakfast!)

We like half board so we are nit tied to the resort / hotel during the day, but all main meals are Dealt with.

Eurocamp is also perfect for under 12s. There are kids clubs and they make friends. You have the advantage of your own space with two bedrooms and a living area and breakfast on the terrace but there are restaurants take aways on site as well as a shop. You can spend relaxed days at the pools or go on day trips and often the local town is a few minutes walk. Usually a good mix of nationalities including the nationality of the country you're in.

Not in February obviously, but May - September.

@MargosKaftan yay! Me too! Absolutely love her!

@BlackCoffeeInAPoolOfSunshine I have seen ads for Eurocamp so I will look in to that, thank you.

Thank you everyone for your input, you have made me feel better and I've just organised a night out with my one of my friends for tomorrow night who seems to have had an equally busy, exhausting half term without the holiday and just doing day trips!! We shall certainly condole each other tomorrow night 🤣

Best thing I ever did was decide to holiday separately with a girlfriend Grin & leave the family behind .... but also I would recommend Eurocamp or Neilson- not cheap but very relaxing.

MargosKaftan · 18/02/2022 20:17

Neilson holidays are very expensive this year compared to pre covid times! Think they are usually full as so many people have rolled over holidays from summer 2019 and have reduced the number of hotels they are going to, so the places left are pricy. Mark Warner might be better.

fizzyfood · 18/02/2022 20:26

Can you go half board , that's what I insist on if not we go out or get takeaway, pricey options but I do all the cooking at home so need a break from it, and no washing up! Smile

Naiceholiday · 18/02/2022 20:30

Typo!! I put condole and i meant console but maybe I was right first time round 🤣
