... the bowl prep laxatives before colonoscopy?

Have drank one sachet (began at 5.15) and feeling sick. Have not yet started the ... main action... (lol) but wanted to try to drink all before relocating to the bathroom... but not sure if it will be possible. Argh!!

Sorry for posting AIBU

I thought they made you swallow a camera in a capsule these days?

There is, but if they need to take any biopsies or remove any polyps etc, then you'll need a colonoscopy anyway.

NeverChange · 17/02/2022 20:18

If you don't they can't do it and you'll have to drink more again!!

Drink it like shots or neat shorts. Split it into small amounts and down in one, over and over til it's gone.

Sipping it ir drinking it slowly is a nightmare and it gets worse every time.

@maddiemookins16mum

DH put his in his beer mug and made me chant ‘drink, drink, drink’ and bang the coffee table at the same time. He said it reminded him of Uni days.
That made me properly laugh. I like your bloke Grin
Garysmum · 17/02/2022 20:25

It's gross. I always have it with squash.

I was on a sachet daily for months. I can't tell you how much I loathe that stuff
@RichardMarxisinnocent I assumed she meant that if she hadn't tucked her trousers into her socks then the uncontrollable poo would have leaked out before she got to the bathroom ShockShockShock
Thank you, I feel a bit stupid for not realising that now! I had no idea the effects of bowel prep would be so sudden.

Kickers567 · 17/02/2022 20:28

Thank you all!!

I really might have given up without this post but I drank it all!!

Now for what follows... at least rest is passive...

I had to mix it with sprite and have never been able to drink sprite since
Good luck this evening

Op your belly will feel slushy for awhile then it will start. It will pour out like a waterfall towards the end. It's both horrific and satisfying haha. Don't be over zealous with the wiping especially at the start or you will end up raw (trust me). It's only going to get messy 3 mins later so just a swift wipe and wait for the next lot 😁

Heytheredemons · 17/02/2022 21:03

@Kickers567

Any anyone got any tips on how to drink it? Thanks
My husband has colitis, so sadly, a regular ish occurrence to take the bowel prep. It's does make him sick as he says it is soooo salty. He normally manages to get the 1st one in, and then for the 2nd puts loads and loads of orange squash in. He says that makes it just about bearable so he can get it down. Best of luck, it's so unpleasant.
TopEndChops · 17/02/2022 21:10

Feel for ya. Had mine on Tuesday, however did have the best nights sleep in forever that night thanks to the fentanyl/midozolam combination. Best of luck for tomorrow.

I wish they would invent something needing less volume than bowel prep but persevere. A few years back I threw up a small amount due to the horrible texture. I was mortified when I saw "insufficient examination due to poor bowel preparation"in my notes. Top tips. Make up 1 litre at a time and put it in the fridge. Mix with orange squash or lime cordial. Drink 1 wineglassful every 10 minutes. During the break between mixtures drink lots of warm water sweetened and with lemon if you like (helps with cramps)Once you have stopped doing an impression of an upside-down volcano lie down with a hot water bottle. Ask for sedation, it makes the experience a lot more bearable.

JustMsInvisible · 17/02/2022 21:26

With a straw followed by a bit of fudge yum

MrsMigginsCat · 17/02/2022 21:45

I'm yet to have my first, but these stories have made me laugh. I have Lynch Syndrome so this is going to be a two yearly thing for me. Apparently mixing it with cold Coke Zero is meant to be good. The sweetener in it is a laxative and helps with the clearing out process.

chillidoritto · 17/02/2022 21:50

Is it a bit like having colonic irrigation? Do you feel really cleansed afterwards? How long does it last?

comeundone · 17/02/2022 21:59

@chilli not really. It's not an experience anyone would pay for. I mean I suppose someone might but

Lougle · 17/02/2022 22:03

The thing with bowel prep is that you take the first lot and think 'I thought this stuff was meant to make you crap for England Confused' Then you start taking the second lot and you crap for England Grin

The mistake is if you get off the loo because it hasn't worked....

MrsMigginsCat · 18/02/2022 10:40

@BattenbergdowntheHatches

Hello *@MrsMigginsCat* - fellow Lynchie here! You get used to the prep, honest. And tbf the sedation is lovely.
Hey @BattenbergdowntheHatches nice to find a fellow Lynchie! I'm not looking forward to the prep, but it's a necessary evil I guess to pick up any nasties early.
ThinWomansBrain · 18/02/2022 11:19

I have a plate with a pinch of salt, chili flakes and rosemary, and a teaspoon of marmite and honey. I have lemon fanta and apple juice.
that lot sounds foul enough on its own Shock
