Hi all,

I had dental surgery in a private hospital a few weeks ago. I was charged £100 more than expected. When I asked for an itemised receipt, I've been charged for a drill bit (!) that wasn't on the original quote.

Would it be unreasonable to ask for the £100 back?

Presumably it was needed in your surgery and therefore chargeable? Have you checked the t&C's?

It wasn't in the Ts & Cs. I know they do this particular surgery all the time. Surely that's a cost the hospital or surgeon should bear as the cost of doing business?

I would question it

Thanks. They initially took payment over the phone and gave me a non-itemised receipt which I found a bit strange. Had to ask for the itemised one

If you were charged for the drill bit then surely it now belongs to you, so if they refuse your refund ask for the item that you paid for! I’m sure they have no use for it if it is a one time use!
