Please stop Febreezing everything

Every time I buy something from eBay it stinks. The item itself stinks. The packaging stinks.
If it stank of dog hair or mould or something natural then I could clean it, but no, everything stinks of Febreeze or Zoflora or one of those awful odour remover sprays.
It makes me feel sick, and it’s impossible to get rid of. If I can’t put it in the washing machine I have to put the offending item in the garage for months and hope that the smell will eventually dissipate. I bought some secondhand boots today and now the whole house smells of Febreeze, despite me immediately taking all the packaging out to the bin and putting the boots in the garage.
Please stop covering everything with revolting chemicals. It’s so unnecessary.

Fragrance sensitivity can cause anaphylaxis, exactly the same as peanuts can.

If this is true and I was someone who was someone unlucky enough to go into anaphylaxis shock due to being sent a febreezed item I would make sure to ask the seller if the item had been sprayed.

I didn’t say that I would die from anaphylactic shock if I inhaled Febreeze. I said that fragrance sensitivity can cause anaphylaxis. It doesn’t for me. It gives me headaches and nausea. But it does for some people.
I have spent the last 20+ years ordering stuff from eBay, and it’s only in the last couple of years that highly scented items have become the norm.
There’s no reason to expect that if I order something from eBay it will be covered in unnecessary chemicals. If I had a peanut allergy I wouldn’t order peanuts, and if I had a fragrance allergy I wouldn’t order Febreeze, but I would no more expect someone to cover my eBay purchase with Febreeze than I would expect them to cover it in the dust from the bottom of the peanut packet. Both situations are equally nonsensical.

Yes, I could contact the seller and ask them not to spray it, but as mentioned upthread, many sellers prepare items for posting before the auctions end.
And yes, I could stop buying from eBay but, to use the peanut analogy again, should I be prevented from buying from eBay because some sellers like to throw in a few unnecessary peanuts with my purchase, for no reason other than that they personally like peanuts, and don’t care that the peanuts could make other people ill?

Maybe we could all be a bit more considerate of other people’s allergies and sensitivities. I won’t eat peanuts near your allergic child, and you stop spraying toxic shit all over my purchases.

It’s really odd to me that you’re so quick to call me stupid and ridiculous. You seem strangely angry about this. Do you have shares in Febreeze?

I also don't understand why people are having to medically justify not liking febreeze and heavy artificial scent 🤣 even if it didn't give me a headache, in my opinion it smells cheap, tacky and nasty. It also makes me wonder what they're trying to cover up - I prefer things to just be clean and smell of 'itself'. If you febreeze and similar products then that's fine, but lots of us don't - it takes all sorts!

It wasn't me that mentioned medical issues. That was op.

I made the mistake of trying febreeze (or similar) once on an item I wanted to sell on eBay - I think I'd seen it recommended on here. It smelled so awful after spraying that I aired it for a week before listing it (luckily it was summer). I really hope the buuer didn't have to suffer any lingering stink! Never again - awful stuff.
