Clear Blue Digital and false positives

Namechange74328 · 16/02/2022 13:18

I have a thread elsewhere about my circumstances but have just done:

1 clear blue digital (1/2 weeks pregnant)
2 first response (negative)
1 other brand (negative)

AIBU to think Clear Blue might have the odd inaccurate test? I know a false positive is supposed to be impossible but the tests don't agree!

By the way I cannot have a baby due to health issues so don't want to be pregnant at all.

Test pictures attached. I do feel nauseous but that could be for any number of reasons.

I’d be surprised the digital was inaccurate. They’re usually less sensitive. I hope you get answers soon.

Bearing in mind the last line of your first post. I wouldn't waste any more time doubting the one positive result.

Notwithittoday · 16/02/2022 13:32

I actually found the digis much more sensitive than frers. It’s either very early or you’re having a chemical pregnancy. I had four chemicals before dd1 that all showed up on clear blue digital but barely there on line tests. Do you know how many days past ovulation you are?

MillyMollyMandyMaybe · 16/02/2022 13:32

How late is your period? Does it tally with the clear blue (taking into account the way that pregnancy is counted)? Did you use first morning urine for the clear blue? If so, that might be why your hcg was just enough to give a positive on that one, but not on the others.

It sounds as though being pregnant would be high stakes for you, so perhaps you can arrange a confirmatory blood test at your go surgery? It would start the ball rolling if you need to be considering termination.

I hope you can get this resolved quickly and without too much upset.

It's been a long time since I was TTC but when I was (and on forums for it etc) it was always CB digitals that were the least sensitive. This may have now changed.

It is unusual to get a negative on a FRER and a positive on a CB digital. Were they all taken at the same time?

As far as I am aware there is no such thing as a negative positive though so I'd act on that and reach out to your medical team.

I too cannot have a pregnancy for medical reasons - mine is more down the the medication I take - so I'd need to contact my team ASAP if it ever happened.

You only get false positive when it’s a IVF pregnancy. If it’s positive you’re pregnant.

Namechange74328 · 16/02/2022 13:45

Two more clear blue digitals say not pregnant.

It would never even have crossed my mind to take a different rest so I’d be assuming I was pregnant. I also think I can see a faint line on the bottom of the three tests.

Namechange74328 · 16/02/2022 13:46

Yes they were all taken this morning.

@Namechange74328

Yes they were all taken this morning.
Did you use the same urine sample? First wee of the day is the strongest then it gets weaker. First wee of the morning is best for testing.
Notwithittoday · 16/02/2022 13:54

They are supposed to be less sensitive than frers according to the hcg levels on the packets but I always have had positives on digitals before frers even with the same urine. I’ve been a poas addict in the past.
I think you’re probably looking at a chemical pregnancy here op so if you definitely don’t want a baby or can’t for medical reasons you need to look at your contraceptive choices because something has got through there

Crunchymum · 16/02/2022 13:55

Well maybe wait a few days / take another test / see if period arrives.

Sounds like you may have picked up a chemical pregnancy?

WaterBottle123 · 16/02/2022 14:29

Definitely retest tomorrow. Hope you're ok Op

Namechange74328 · 18/02/2022 21:48

Thanks for the responses. Just thought I would update, partly to help anyone going through similar.

Hospital blood test was negative.
Various doctors and nurses all said the same thing. They see digital false positives fairly often. Apparently this is because a digital test automatically records an inconclusive result as positive. If you have messed up the test in some way or something about it is not ideal, the result is not negative but a positive.

Why they can't say error I don't know. It would have saved me a day of trauma.

Thanks again.

Oh I am sorry... test again and if needed have a blood test in the hospital, they will be able to tell you for sure.
