My DS was playing with another child whilst waiting for my other DS.

The child out of nowhere punched my DS in the face and pushed him over into the mud. I immediately went over to my son and took him away and calmed him down while the child's parents just stood there and did absolutely nothing about it.
I told the parents and they literally said "and?" And turned back to their conversation.

AIBU to think this is the problem with todays society that parents don't want to Discipline their children and then wonder why they turn into bullies/little **s?

I'd have been tempted to punch her in the face face say and?

Hospedia · 15/02/2022 17:05

No, you wouldn't have.

Discipline your children or prison will. Anti social behaviour needs to be corrected.. and if it’s not then the police will correct it.

@HardbackWriter

You're right - this happened for the very first time in 2013 and sadly it's all been downhill since then Sad

YABU to suggest it’s “these days”.
It’s been always.

This generation of parents is not special or different, parents have always been parents, good or bad. I’ve seen posts on here moaning that parents these days are too involved, now we’re not involved enough! Can’t win.

AND! today’s stock answer I’m afraid. I would have been made to apologise to the other child & mum/dad, but it wouldn’t have crossed my mind in those days, I knew my place along with the other children in the street. How times have sadly changed & not for the better
WheelieBinPrincess · 15/02/2022 17:17

I’ve often told other people’s children off for them but it certainly doesn’t make you very popular…

Not unkindly just a firm ‘no, it’s not your turn’ or ‘now that wasn’t very kind, was it?’

@OnlyFoolsnMothers

People can be assholes- these people can reproduce just as decent people, these people become asshole parents.
Yes. The little horror in DS's class who knocked him down and kicked him in the stomach in the park is the son of an ignorant, aggressively stupid and confrontational woman who is visibly an appalling, neglectful parent. In my more charitable moments, I feel sorry for the child, who will probably be in a borstal before he's sixteen.
SockQueen · 15/02/2022 17:21

If we want to stereotype, isn't it more likely back then that the parents simply wouldn't be there, having sent the kids out to "go and play," and never be any the wiser? Wink

Agree it's nothing new.

On a side note, my mate is a bus driver and he's sick of hearing lazy parents saying, "sit down or the driver will tell you off" etc. instead of establishing some boundaries as a parent.
