ALWAYS freezing?

Is anyone else always freezing? I could sit at home with the heating at 30 (obviously I don’t but I could!) with thermal layers, a fluffy robe, hot water bottle, blanket, thick jumper and duvet and I would still feel cold.

I’m healthy and have normal bloods and BP. My BMI is around 20/21 so I’m not underweight either. I eat regular meals and snack inbetween so I’m not hungry.

I can feel that my surroundings are warm but I still feel cold inside and it makes me feel cold and shiver. We have carpets and rugs at home and I feel cold everywhere I go (work, home, shops.)

Anyone else naturally cold? What helps?

Did you see your blood results? I always ask for a copy as in my experience drs will say they’re normal when they’re borderline.
Check your thyroid is optimum.
Keep moving, wear thermal base layers?

No I haven’t viewed them myself, good idea though.

I wear thermal base layers almost everyday unfortunately, I would love to be warm without them but I’m freezing even with them !

Maybe get your thyroid checked?
Also depends how active you are, I find if I'm sedentary that it doesn't help. Hard with a desk based job but try and keep moving!

I hadn’t realised thyroid problems could cause this but I think you’re right, probably worth checking. Although my recent blood test was completely normal and I don’t have any other problems.

Being sedentary definitely makes it worse doesn’t it! I try to keep moving and I’m on my feet all day in work but somehow still end up shivering!

Even if your blood test was normal, check what thyroid testing was carried out and research the results as often it’s below a threshold that would be treated elsewhere.

I'm always cold too - find it better when I've been exercising regularly. We have a farm and I'm always cold when I'm out feeding etc or working outside. My poor hands and feet!
Hot drinks too really help when I come back in.

I’m always cold.

Years ago in the 90’s, l awlways wore all black. I got nicknamed Mortician at workGrin l was still cold when sat next to the radiator. I didn’t care about a window desk, l just wanted a radiator desk.

I’ve had thyroid and everything checked loads of times. I’m just always cold. I wear vests. That helps a bit. Thick woolly thermal socks line proper hiking socks.

Too many layers makes me feel suffocated, and l always find that however many layers l wear the cold sneaks in through any tiny gap.

SusannaQueen · 15/02/2022 18:50

That's me too. I frequently wear a coat inside. Can't comprehend the people on heating threads who happily heat their house only to 16 degrees. I feel really fluey and ill if I get too cold. When people were sweltering at 35 degrees a couple of years back, my OH was in a heap, but I was fairly comfortable.

SirenSays · 15/02/2022 18:55

I'm always cold, always have been. I remember wearing several layers underneath my school uniform. I also have hyperhidrosis that doesn't care about the temperature so I'm usually cold and wet. Its great fun 😮‍💨

Bonbon21 · 15/02/2022 18:56

At the risk of insulting your intelligence... the secret to wearing layers is for them to overlap..
Vest top tucked into tights.. then tshirt tucked into jeans.. this gives extra layers around the central core..
Having a gap all round your middle lets all the heat escape...
Also long long sleeves that fit close to your wrists and socks that come up over your calves.. stops drafts..

Andacherryonthetop · 15/02/2022 19:08

Omg I could have written this! I sometimes wonder if I’m normal because I’m always so cold. I often sit of an evening on the sofa in pjs, a hoody, a dressing gown and a blanket. And thick socks. And I’m still cold. I get freezing in bed with the winter duvet on. I have a blood test on Wednesday to check my thyroid. I’m quite often low on energy so I wonder if it’s linked.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/02/2022 19:11

The cold still gets in through tucked in layers. It manages to find the weak spot and sneak in.

Despite a long sleeve t and a hoodie my wrists are cold. Even though they are close fitting, the cold is sneaking in.

I say cold, I’m sat next to a fire, but only just feel comfortable. And I’ve got fleece lined jeans on and my legs are cold.

Honourofgrayskull · 15/02/2022 19:18

I always feel the cold, right to my core even if the heating is on. I can appreciate that the house is warm but sometimes I just don't heat up enough (think I'm part lizard and need to bask for hours in the sun!)
I wear layers, vest, t shirt, jumper and usually an oodie, thick socks and big slippers. The best thing I found is going out for a walk, even a short 10 minutes gets the blood circulating and warms me right up.

veiledsentiments · 15/02/2022 19:26

I’m in Cyprus. Am wearing the warmest, long sleeved thermal vest from Marks. A long sleeved jersey shirt, jumper, am buried under wolfie. Full length socks and jeans, raging fire. My hands have just reached normal.

mamamarshmallow · 15/02/2022 19:32

I have an under active thyroid (born with it/without it) & I always feel the cold. Even in summer In 25.c if there's a breeze I feel cold & get goosebumps. Me & my DP joke about my 'cold" size, I look a 16 until I take off my layers to reveal size 12 🤣
The only thing that really helps is movement.

WellTidy · 15/02/2022 19:36

I am always cold too. The heating is set at 22 degrees right now and I have thermal socks, jeans, fleece backed thermal vest and a very thick arran style wool jumper almost down to my knees and uk to my chin, and slippers on.

I have just cooked in the kitchen (oven on for the last hour, hob for 25 minutes), eaten a hot meal and I still don’t feel warm.

I would be genuinely depressed and utterly miserable if my heating had ti be set at the temperatures so many people are forced to. I really feel for people who are miserably cold.

eyeslikebutterflies · 15/02/2022 19:38

Low blood pressure means I am always cold. The only way to change that is to exercise (a lot, make it part of your routine, it can be walks, you don't have to run marathons. This is especially important if you have a desk based job: by lunchtime I've been sat for hours and unsurprisingly I'm freezing! So building in breaks to have 10 min walks every hour or so makes a huge difference. Proper yoga style stretching also really works as it gets the blood moving again).

Merino wool base layers are a game changer. Hot drinks. A little mini electric blanket for my lap. An electric blanket for my bed. And drink plenty of water all through the day as dehydration decreases blood flow, which makes me colder. But mainly yeah it's exercise.

gunnersgold · 15/02/2022 19:42

Let's face it most people are over their optimum weight so are insulated . You are slim and won't have much fat .
I'm not as skin but always cold too . Base layers and padded coats are my friend !

YingMei · 15/02/2022 19:42

This is me. Same BMI, always freezing. I don't have much to offer other than sympathy. I can't even deal with a breeze!
I can also recommend a heated blanket, love mine

CookiesAndCreme1 · 15/02/2022 19:47

It’s relieving to know other people are the same! All I ever hear from my friends and family is that it’s far too hot and that we need to turn down the heating! Meanwhile I’ll be sitting shivering with the heating on at the max.

My normal, healthy body temperature is low 95s so I think it’s just normal for me to be cold!

OP posts:
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/02/2022 20:33

That body temperature thing is quite interesting.

I’m red hot to touch, feel very warm apparently, but l still feel the cold. How does that work?!
