So my Son in his 20s . Im often stuck for Birthday ideas! Saw a great idea locally .Escape Room for up to 6 people. all good .can take friends .Thing is one is quite scary (Sort of Ghost theme His GF may not like it,) 2nd/ Pirate ship/ bit young for him .3rd set in a lab where emergency starting ,all need to get out quickly and quite a difficult layout .Trouble is he and his friends all Scientists working in a Lab ! So do you think this would be acceptable ,No 3 I mean or do I choose another option? Dont want to scare them from their jobs! YABU just choose the lab option all fine .YANBU Might make them feel a little nervous at work!

Unless it's a milestone birthday, I would let him organise his own birthday entertainment, perhaps offer to take him and his girlfriend out for a meal sometime.

BettyBag · 14/02/2022 13:50

He's 20+, any are fine.

Sparklesocks · 14/02/2022 13:51

Surely as he’s in his 20s he can arrange his own party?

JustBlethering · 14/02/2022 13:52

Why don't you ask him?

HairyScaryMonster · 14/02/2022 13:53

Can you not buy him a voucher and he chooses?

Emmas85 · 14/02/2022 13:53

They usually sell gift vouchers, why not get a voucher and he can decide. That way it's still a surprise but he gets to choose.

Justmuddlingalong · 14/02/2022 13:54

If this is instead of a gift, I'd give him the money and let him pick his own birthday gift/entertainment.

JustBlethering · 14/02/2022 13:58

Might make them feel a little nervous at work!

I think they will find the lab one funny (may have a laugh at certain flaws with the room set up!).

AnEpisodeOfEastenders · 14/02/2022 14:11

You’re arranging a birthday treat for your 20+ year old son and his friends? How sweet.

Daenerys77 · 14/02/2022 14:17

I think they would probably rather go out drinking to be honest.

NumberTheory · 14/02/2022 14:23

You think a game will make them worried about their jobs? I would hope, if they are scientists, they’re a bit more rational than that!

In their 20s they’ll likely find the lab one a bit of a laugh and make references to it in their actual job for weeks.

dottydodah · 14/02/2022 14:45

Hi yes ,We do take him and hi lovely GF out for a meal anyway .Just usually give him cash and some presents as well .Often stuck for gift ideas! So this was for a present idea IFYSYIM .He will be organising his own celebrations in the pub .No worries about that!

It's an escape room, there's nothing scary about them unless you're 3. Who the heck is afraid of fake ghosts, let alone a lab!?

NailedIt1 · 14/02/2022 15:17

Definitely go for the lab one, I'm sure they will love it! Great gift idea.

TwoMountains · 14/02/2022 15:30

If he’s in his 20’s then I can’t see a lab based escape room making him feel a bit nervous at work.

But I’d ask him which one he fancies doing most before booking.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/02/2022 15:38

Option three sounds like a right Busman's holiday. And they'd know more about defined procedures than normal, so likely wouldn't be able to suspend their disbelief, even with added Zombies.

I'd go for the most infantile one, as lab rats don't often get the change to swashbuckle their way around the gaffe.

Hdhr8jsj · 14/02/2022 16:11

Either is fine. They will be in the room alone, just looking for clue to get out. There's nothing much related to the theme except the basics - nothing will jump out, so it's not scary.

Mine love the escape rooms (19 and 21).

WalkingOnTheCracks · 15/02/2022 10:43

So, hang on...

You're fear here is that a bunch of professional scientists, faced with a play scenario that involves science, might think, "Cripes, it's suddenly occurred to me that working in a lab might be dangerous. I should probably consider re-training as a fabric designer."

WalkingOnTheCracks · 15/02/2022 10:43

Ach. 'Your'.

AllOfUsAreDead · 15/02/2022 10:47

@JustBlethering

Might make them feel a little nervous at work!

Grin

I laughed at this too. They are in their 20s, if that makes them nervous at work, then that's quite worrying. Grin

Any of them would be fine. Do they not do a generic voucher and he can choose? Doesn't matter then what you think he'd like.

Floralnomad · 15/02/2022 10:51

Most escape rooms do vouchers so just buy one of those - if he’s into escape rooms I’d check where he wants to go as they do vary wildly in quality and he may have done the ones you are looking at before .
