Average, healthy eating

I'm over weight, I also think I might have an eating disorder. I binge eat and also have incredibly unrealistic ideas about how much an average person eats.

I'm thinking of going to my Doctor, however I would really appreciate some ideas of how much an average person eats and exercises. I understand not everyone is the same and there are extremes on both ends but some realistic idea of how a fully functioning adult eats would be incredibly helpful.

If you are an 'average' (whatever average is?!) Person with reasonably healthy eating patterns would you mind sharing an average meal day for you and what, if any exercise you do.

Ask your GP for a healthy eating plan. Or join a weight management program.
Otherwise this thread is just many, many descriptions of food. Which is just more churning of the food thoughts.

Today was a fairly typical day for me:

Breakfast - toasted hot cross bun with butter - in general I have porridge but there was one left looking all lonely so I couldn’t leave it

Lunch - slice of wholemeal toast with a mashed avocado and a poached egg

Dinner - pasta bake with chicken, broccoli, leeks, peppers, crème fraiche stirred through and topped with Parmesan

Snack - 2 x plain digestive biscuits

I made a big pot of lentil and vegetable soup earlier and that will be lunches for the rest of the week.

I’m 5ft 6, healthy BMI but at the upper end, 23.

OP, I am not average, I am short and obese, also suffer with some binge eating issues. But I have been losing weight recently and this is purely from trying to eat more "normally", so I totally get you!

I used to have several times a week for lunch something like this from the Co-op:
Southern Chicken wrap
Grab bag of hula hoops
Boost bar
Munchies chocolates
Flavoured water

I now have, still from the Co-op:
Pasta bowl (like mozzarella/tomato or chicken/bacon)
Maltesers or Bueno
Tap water or tea no sugar

So I'm not completely there, but reducing calories and sat fat a bit, in a way that's sustainable for me. And I still like my lunch! I've stopped buying snacks for home and no longer snack in the evenings as much which has helped, too. In the past two weeks I've lost nearly half a stone.

I'm doing a weekly dance class and started ice skating lessons as my two exercise things a week. I'll pick up more when I can, but just something to get me moving.

I'm sure if you think about it you can see where you could make some small changes. Start with one or two things and go from there. It's getting to a habit for me now where I'll go into a shop and come out with sensible things, not with 3 chocolate bars and a packet of donuts that I eat all by myself!

I've even had a small takeaway pizza each week and a chip shop takeaway each week - just with plenty of veg or salad and lots of water. I'm not going without, but started making changes. Good luck with your journey!

This is great advice and a really sensible approach. I love that your exercise options are fun!

Agree with @SallyLovesCheese. Having lost over 3 stone and determined to keep it off and make healthy changes for life, I started with small changes first. I started by making sure I had half a plate of veg with evening meals, then cutting out all evening snacks, then making healthy breakfast/ lunch/ mid after noon snack choices. I now have a healthy diet which I really enjoy and feels realistic to maintain. I went from living off junk food to eating primarily for health. I do have the very occasional meal out/ takeaway but it’s just one meal now, doesn’t lead to a binge and I just get straight back to eating healthily the next meal

I eat about 2000 calories a day

Breakfast
Weetabix/Porridge/Granola
Fruit

Morning Snack
Don't tend to need one, but if I do a cereal bar

Lunch
Soup, bread with some chicken
Veggie Rice, and some sort of portein
Big prawn salad with a bagel with cream cheese

Afternoon Snack
Some sort of lean protein and carb

Dinner
Spag bol, Curry, stir fry, sausage and mash etc etc All with a load of veg

Evening Snack
Chocolate

Exercise
10k steps or Cycling

I feel best when I eat a lot veg and have something yummy like chocolate in the evening
