Is sending an anonymous valentines card quite creepy?

I've never actually had an anonymous valentines day gift or present but I thought they are supposed to be anonymous..? Surely that's quite creepy?! I would be wondering who had sent it and second guessing everyone and feeling paranoid.
Has anyone here received an anonymous one? AIBU?!

Having been stalked and understanding the fear that it brought with it, I don’t like the anonymous Valentine BS. Stalkers justify their behaviour by telling themselves (and the police when they’re arrested) that they were just being romantic. It’s not romantic, it’s an intrusive way to rack up an implied debt and let someone feel that they can’t go about their everyday life without unwanted scrutiny. But it’s not just Valentine’s Day…. Don’t get me started on Santa Claus! (Creepy AF!)

The whole point when I was young was that they were anonymous.

However I do think it somehow seems wrong and inappropriate in 2022, and yes a bit creepy.

But as far as I'm concerned it's a day that could do one anyway, commercial load of crap.

When I was around 8 or 9 I got an anonymous Valentine's card from another child that said 'you are special because you touch people's hearts and are very lucky.'

Always remembered it and wondered who it was from!

I've been with my partner for 40 years and have never signed my card.

As an adult I might find it a bit creepy I suppose but receiving one the Valentine’s I was 14 and then again the year I was 15 meant a lot to me as a teenager. I wasn’t the kind of girl most boys fancied - a bit plump, frizzy hair, glasses, a bit of a swot - and so it made me happy to think there was a boy out there who actually liked me! I think I’ve still got them in an old scrap book. Still no idea who sent them - they were posted to my address but with only half the postcode on so I knew it wasn’t just my dad being a bit daft as obviously he knew the whole postcode!

@SoupDragon

When you’re a teen, valentines is just that. Bit of fun.

I found it hideous and depressing.

However, I agree that it isn't creepy at all. I imagine the thought that someone likes you is wonderful. I remember getting one at work once and I felt great until someone confessed it was a joke.

"Hideous and depressing"........YES! In my teens, getting Valentine's cards, anonymous or not, was an absolute necessity if you wanted to be seen as cool and desirable. AND......you had to show them off in school. I was certain, one year, probably aged around 15, that I wasn't going to get one, (and I was right😞) So I sent one to myself, in heavily disguised writing.......yes, I know, how sad 😢

At school for me , the anonymous thing was just an opportunity for the queen bees to take the piss out of the wallflowers...

I'm 50 and still have one sent to me anonymously as a teen. No idea who sent it, I kept thinking they'd say something!

Sweetener12 · 14/02/2022 08:43

I honestly see nothinng creepy in it and valentines cards are supposed to be anonymous, that's the whole point, isn't it? it's not like me and my DP are going totally anonymous when exchanging smartshow 3d video cards via our literal emails but we don't add signatures there either Grin

I've never had an anonymous card in my youth, although I would've loved to 😌😁
However, I got an anonymous Valentine's card this year and I'm 46yo!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🙈 "Lucky to have you. Really grateful for everything we share" the card says. I don't share anything with anyone at the moment! 🤷🏻‍♀️😄
Not really sure what to make of it. Surely mature people don't do this anymore! 🤔
I must admit, I was quite flattered at first, knowing that someone out there fancied me enough to go to the trouble of buying a card and send it to me first class. 😊🙈 I have no clue who that could be, even though I thought of every single man I know. Very frustrating! 😖 The more I think of it, the more it's starting to make me a little uneasy 🤔 So I'll just try to forget about it 🤷🏻‍♀️
I'm just hoping that, if they want me to know who they are, they will write again 😉😊
Besides, they spelled my name wrong 😐

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 16/02/2023 12:46

I had one in my late teens but it wasn't hard to work out who sent it - I didn't exactly have a string of admirers 😂
