WIBU to book into a hotel a night a month?

Rainallnight · 13/02/2022 06:52

We have DC who are early wakers. DP and I take it in turns to have a weekend lie in. If it’s your turn to have a lie in, you go into the spare room (so you also don’t deal with any night wakings) and the other person deals with the early morning.

BUT the buggers always wake me up anyway. I’m a very light sleeper and just the noise of two small kids being up and about, going to the loo etc wakes me up.

I am desperate to sleep past 6.

So I was thinking of booking myself into a hotel a night a month for my lie in. Nothing fancy, a Premier Inn or something would be fine. I just want to sleep.

But is that unreasonable and indulgent?

Do it. I started doing it in between consecutive night shifts. It's such a treat!

tackling · 13/02/2022 06:55

If he's okay with it, why not?

(Have you tried earplugs first though?)

jellymaker · 13/02/2022 06:56

You will wake up at 6am anyway. Trust me, your days of sleeping past 6 are over. Sorry.

IWouldBeSuperb · 13/02/2022 06:56

YANBU to want to sleep in - but earplugs might be cheaper? Especially if your husband will want to do the same!

But if you've got the money to burn, go for it!

AshGirl · 13/02/2022 06:56

We have a similar shift pattern and I've got a night in a hotel booked soon. It's my first night away in nearly 5 years! Do it!

Indecisivelurcher · 13/02/2022 06:57

My kids were always shit sleepers, particularly my eldest. They're largely better now, mostly. When I look back on the worst time the thing I think I should have done but didn't, is go to a hotel. So it's a yes from me, do it op and enjoy it.

Crimesean · 13/02/2022 06:58

Wax earplugs are ace, I'm also a very light sleeper and use them when it's my lie-in.

If I've run out I use white noise through ear buds - rain falling usually. Works a treat!

However, YANBU to book a hotel if you want to.

roses2 · 13/02/2022 07:00

Try it. If it works then great! If not and you still wake early at least you tried

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 13/02/2022 07:02

If the cost of it is manageable for you then oh my goodness, DO IT! A fabulous idea which can only benefit everyone. Book it now!

twominutesmore · 13/02/2022 07:02

It wouldn't bother me. I'd enjoy hearing them all getting up while I rolled over and snuggled back into bed. Earplugs are also very effective as pp said. So I do think a hotel is a little extreme. I don't consider 6 to even be that early. If your dh decides to do it once a month too would that be ok? If so, and you can afford it, why not.

PrawnCracker1 · 13/02/2022 07:08

Gosh 6 is normal waking time for me now even though my kids are older and past the days of early wake ups!
But if you can afford it, why not Smile

BendingSpoons · 13/02/2022 07:09

I would probably wake at 6 anyway and then be annoyed at the waste of money!

Jellybean100 · 13/02/2022 07:15

6 to some people may not be early (well done to you)
OP clearly states 6 is too early for her
If you can afford it, do it, although I imagine DP will want to start doing the same and it’ll start to be expensive

Rainallnight · 13/02/2022 07:17

I know 6 isn’t early for some people, it’s just never even having the option to sleep beyond that which is getting my goat.

DP is quite deaf and would sleep through an actual earthquake Grin It’s unlikely she’d ask for the same.

We can afford it.

Kfjsjdbd · 13/02/2022 07:19

Do it. I am dreaming of doing the same.

But also, have a large glass of wine and a sleeping pill to make sure you have the best sleep ever.

Rainallnight · 13/02/2022 07:33

Now they’re playing the Hotel Transylvania soundtrack on the Alexa

Hmm

But fuck it, I’m awake anyway.

Wax earplugs are a good suggestion and definitely cheaper!

@BendingSpoons yes, I had thought of that. Or with my luck, there’d be a fire alarm and I’d end up outside on the street at 4am.

My problem is that once I’m awake, I can’t go back to sleep. Yes, it’s nice to be able to snuggle down, but I need to stay asleep to be asleep. If that makes any sense.

I am loving all the people who think it’s a good idea. Grin

Its not an issue but have you tried white noise, ear plugs, melatonin? Might be cheaper

GeneLovesJezebel · 13/02/2022 07:36

You might get disturbed in a hotel too.

LittleSnakes · 13/02/2022 07:37

It’s a great idea! However…I did it and the there were some noisy fuckers in the street outside! I was so annoyed. So choose your hotel well

Xmasbaby11 · 13/02/2022 07:38

Of course! Why not? Good sleep is golden. I'm not a morning person so 6am feels like the middle of the night to me!

Mine are older now and the ear plugs are for Dh snoring!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 13/02/2022 07:38

I don't think I've ever known a quiet hotel!

Boombastic22 · 13/02/2022 07:40

Hotels like premier inns are usually noisy, I doubt you’d get a better night’s sleep at all. And if DP deaf is he safe to have kids alone? I’d be having an early night.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/02/2022 07:42

At 6am a lot of hotels are starting to wake up and they’ll be banging and crashing, and people moving about/doors slamming … that would piss me off more than the DCs.

dottydodah · 13/02/2022 07:45

Well why the hell not! You can afford it and TBH what price a good nights sleep?Even if you still wake up early ,you have still had a little break .Have a nice bath ,breakfast like a Queen ,take your time full English with lots of toast/coffee ! Take in the papers and just chill out!

justustwoandmoo · 13/02/2022 07:48

Do it! Even if u do wake up at 6am still you can stay in bed. Make a coffee, read a book. Why not! 😁
