To need ideas for a holiday with teen

I want to take my teen boy aged 14 on a little holiday in July. I'm looking for something for about 5 days in England. He's not into swimming so not a Centre Parcs type place and not a theme park. This was what he said when we discussed it earlier and I suggested these type of places! He likes eating and chilling, mainly! Any suggestions?

Depends where in the country you are, as to what makes travel worthwhile, but what about a walking holiday?

Or mine always love the beach

Or somewhere like the Yorkshire coast where you have options for both when you don't want to do wither of those.

Or, what about a City break ? If you don't live there, then what about London if you've not been in recent years?

What DOES he like then other than eating and chilling which is normally part of a holiday anyway???

Do you/he like museums? walking? Parks? Would he like a cooking course during the trip?

Where in the country are you and which areas are you considering?

City break with museums nice places to eat.

Country/coast with activities such as falconry, paddle boarding.

Camping is great for really switching off.

Edinburgh or North Wales

Lakes - he can eat and chill

Thank you for all the ideas. I honestly don't know what he likes these days! He doesn't seem bothered about anything. I think we might just do a few days in London as it is close and don't want to fork out a lot for him to not be bothered! He actually suggested London but then turned down

a show. He does like walking around exploring when we go away so I might just plan a bit of that - have to find somewhere we haven't been. Maybe a free gallery or museum and then some nice meals out.

Is he sporty/active other than not wanting swimming? Lots of forest type options not just centre parcs where you can cycle, horse ride, golf, high ropes etc.
If he likes pottering/museums/eating out then lots of options in London but also lots of lovely cities out there to explore.

He does like some sports but I think he'd like the more pottering about trip. We do like exploring other cities. We did Liverpool last summer which was great.

Kayaking, monkey forest, go ape with meals out in evenings.

What about walking a couple of the Jubilee Greenway phases? You can just Google it and it gives you the maps. Phases 1 and 2 are fairly central (if I remember right phase 1 is Buckingham Palace to Paddington and Phase 2 is Paddington to Little Venice). There are more if you fancy somewhere outside of central London

Then if he likes food/eating why not try some of the less obvious food markets for your meals so maybe Mercato Metropolitan which is near Borough tube station (and also within reasonable walking distance of the Imperial War Museum which is a great one to visit).

Another good food market if you are there at the weekend is Maltby Street Market which is about a 10-15 minute walk from London Bridge station - will caveat that I have not been to either of these markets since before covid but I am sure they are still open

Another food market that I know is definitely open is Spittalfields. Round about that area you could sign up for one of the Jack the Ripper walking tours - they do go into detail so it will be dependent on how mature your son is whether that is a good choice or not. If not plenty of other themed walking tours which could be an option

City break. If he doesn’t want London how about Manchester or York?

NumberTheory · 20/02/2022 03:23

Does he like sport? Would something that centers watching a game/match/meet/etc. one day be good (only works if the sport is in season when you go, of course)?

That could make choosing the city easier.
