Feck! Finally visiting the U.K. from Mainland Europe for first time in 2 years to see friends and family, just realised daughters passport drums out in June and we fly first week of March! Does she defiantly need 6 months validity on her passport?

Is it not 3 months rather than 6

dementedpixie · 12/02/2022 17:43

Do you even need a passport between Ireland and UK

StScholastica · 12/02/2022 17:45

No passport required between UK and Ireland.

dizzydizzydizzy · 12/02/2022 17:46

@StScholastica

No passport required between UK and Ireland.
But OP says she is coming from mainland Europe
dementedpixie · 12/02/2022 17:47

But the passport can be used as ID and therefore as its still in date it will be fine to use for that

dementedpixie · 12/02/2022 17:48

OP where are you travelling from?
Still I'm sure if it's a different EU country then it's 3 months validity not 6

I think you’ll be okay coming, because you can show Irish nationality and UK entry rules are laxer for Irish citizens than for others. Hard to say about returning to the continent without knowing which country.

Could you try ringing the Irish embassy of your country of residence?

www.gov.uk/guidance/visiting-the-uk-as-an-eu-eea-or-swiss-citizen

Or maybe it just needs ro be valid for the length of the visit. Need more info OP

Thoosa · 12/02/2022 17:53

If your DD has official residency where you are, I wouldn’t panic, though.

We live in Spain, travelling to U.K. with Irish passports. I will call the embassy first thing on Monday when it opens but just wondered if anyone had experience- thank you all for taking time to reply

She's fine OP. Even for non-Irish citizens, you only need a passport to be valid for the length of stay.

Irish citizens just need to show they're Irish as they have additional rights

IcedPurple · 12/02/2022 19:59

Irish citizens can enter the UK on pretty much the same terms as British citizens. So provided you have a passport which proves that you are indeed an Irish citizen, length of remaining validity shouldn't be an issue.
