To complain to the decorator about his mess?

So we're having some painting done at the moment and the decorator is using the downstairs toilet to clean his brushes/trays and what have you.

It's literally such a state, the bin is covered in paint, paint over the toilet seat, the hand wash bottle is filthy with mucky wet paint splashes.

The shelve in there is also covered in paint splashes, the mirror and the walls.

To not drip feed later but he's a distant friends dad, so I feel bad in complaining but it's ridiculous

Aibu??

No that's ridiculous he can't leave a mess like that

StoneofDestiny · 09/02/2022 19:11

Just tell him you can't have paint all over your things - I hope it's emulsion not gloss

That’s bad and worth complaining about. I’m always amazed at how clean and tidy our decorator manages to be. It can and should be done by people who charge as professionals.

That's awful OP I'd definitely complain . We recently had decorators in and they spent the last half hour each day tidying up. Not one speck of paint or dust left anywhere . They cleaned their brushes in the sink in our garage and even that was spotless afterward . He obviously has no respect .

Tell him, his last working 15 minutes are to be spent cleaning up after himself.

YANBU. I have never had a decorator leave a mess behind.

BurntO · 09/02/2022 19:45

That’s really unprofessional

Bunce1 · 09/02/2022 19:45

are you getting mates rates?

He might feel he can be slap dash as it’s a bit of a favour?

You were lucky. I've had a decorator ruin a brand new vacuum cleaner by using it to clean up wet wallpaper when stripping the walls. It set solid like Papier mache.

The 'professional' decorators working upstairs used their wash basin to clean brushes and would leave the tap running and let the basin overflow resulting in water pouring through our walls and ceilings.
