AIBU to be worrying about blood results?

So I'll start off by admitting I have been known to suffer from health anxiety from time to time! In November I had a mild infection which caused my glands in my groin to swell and become tender. After a few days they went down and no longer hurt. But one gland is still slightly up, it's small and feels rubbery, think it's moveable which I know are apparently all good signs.

I thought I'd leave it a little while to settle and rang doctors last week as I wanted a professional opinion to put my mind at rest. Doctor asked if I had a whole host of symptoms, of which I have none. In myself I feel fine and normal. I'm actually going to be travelling abroad for work for 4 months from next week so I wanted this sorted before I leave so Dr said I could do a blood test if I wanted but also that with no other symptoms it would have been fine to see how it goes.

I took blood test for my own peace of mind last Thursday, rang surgery today to find out results and they said they've received them but Doctor hasn't had a chance to review them yet so she couldn't give me the results. Is it likely that my results will be normal? She said the surgery received results on 5th and it's now 4 days later so I'm thinking if something was urgently wrong it probably would have been flagged up? She said I can ring again on Friday if I haven't heard but typically the procedure is that they will not ring if results are normal.

Can anyone share their experiences/put my mind at rest for the next couple of days? I also found out that I actually had COVID the day I took the blood test so now I'm also worried that will cause abnormal results!

I had this, the doctor wasn't at all worried and said it's really common. I know at least 4 other people with the same thing (everyone i mentioned it to either had the same issue or knew someone who had). Sometimes the gland gets smaller but you can still feel it for a long time. It has never been anything sinister in anyone I've known including myself. Fellow health anxiety sufferer here so I feel for you Flowers

Thank you for your reassuring words! It's nice to know I'm not alone with this problem. I'm young and as far as I've always been aware, quite fit and healthy but it doesn't stop me worrying! Sending love to you for your anxieties too, it's really horrible isn't it? Flowers

I wouldn't be concerned by this. It's normal to take a few days to read results, especially if they weren't sent as urgent (which is sounds like no reason these would be, given your symptoms). I work in the NHS and every trust I've spoken with the past 3 weeks has been absolutely decimated by COVID. Everyone I know currently has about 50% of staff off sick (and on top of that, lots of staff having to take leave to take care of sick children as well).

Thank you. I did think they are prob short staffed atm - it's tricky as I know the NHS do an amazing job but also know the strain they are under so I do worry about things being missed/not being contacted in case of any abnormalities but I'm just going to try and chill out for now I think!

So just rang again and had the update that I need to book an appointment to ring GP to discuss results. Obviously it's now Friday and I'm going to be unable to speak to GP until next week earliest. Am I right in thinking if it was something overly concerning they need to talk to me about that they would have rang me sooner and made it more urgent? My mind is now racing at all the possibilities!
