When you eat at a restaurant, do you prefer it when they pour the water for you or they give you a jug to pour for yourself?

Just that really. I know this isn’t an AIBU but just wanted to know what others think!

Leave everything on the table please.

We were once staying at an expensive-but-disappointing hotel and they took the wine away at dinner but then didn’t bring it back and dh and I were reduced to trying to flag a waiter down without success. Eventually I gave up and went and got the bottle myself (it was just across the room) at which point a waiter came and told me off. This was about 15 years ago and I’m still cross about it, just wish I could remember the name of the hotel.

@HailAdrian I’d say if something was wrong. There is no need to come over. No news is good news.

They have to ask if everything is OK due to all the people who will happily eat a meal in silence even if its not all OK then write scathing reviews online.

Don't care...just as long as there is water. Who pours it doesn't matter

SweetFelicityArkright · 10/02/2022 07:11

I'd rather it not be poured for me, but then I do try and politely communicate my preferences to the waiting staff rather than waiting for them to do whatever is their policy and if they've got it wrong to my preference, get huffy about it.
I don't expect them to be able to tell by looking at me if I'd prefer my water poured or not, just from this short thread we can see that everyone is different and prefers different things.

Doodlepoodle1 · 10/02/2022 07:19

Left on the table.

And please - no lemon! Why on earth would I want my lovely fresh tap water adulterated with lemon? I forget to tell them not to because I don't eat out that often, and every time the jug turns up with lemony water!

Shiningpath · 10/02/2022 07:28

Water in restaurants comes in bottles that you open and pour yourself. Never known it served in a jug, not since I was at school.

I think that depends more on whether you ask for bottled or tap.

Hill1991 · 10/02/2022 07:31

For me I prefer them to pour it and take the jug away because I'm that clumsy that I know if I do it myself it will end up all over the table and jug probably knocked over 🤣🤣

Iwannabewherethepeopleare · 10/02/2022 15:25

I would never buy bottled water for the table so it comes in jugs or open bottles for me.

OneTC · 10/02/2022 15:30

I prefer no water. Ever
