Posting in the hopeful chance someone knows more about this than me. I’m at the stage where I feel like this is all in my head and I’m worried I’m coming across as an attention seeker with the amount of appointments I’ve had.

Could a skin infection (skin/head) somehow spread to the sinuses? I’ve had eczema which keeps getting infected and is infected again and now I’ve got what seems to be sinusitis in one side of my face as well. It’s awful and i’m in agony with it.

I was worried the infection had somehow spread into my sinuses but I didn’t know if this was possible or not! I’m hoping I’m just worrying about nothing. My skin infection was previously s.aureus but now it’s infected again and we don’t know if it’s fungal or bacterial or not.

There’s so many horror stories online about infections spreading and I didn’t know if it was possible for it to spread like this, but given that the possible sinusitis is excruciating and worsening and the skin infection is on my face too, I wanted to ask just to check if anyone knew.

Hi, I feel for you , sinusitis is very painful and horrible.

If you can buy the NeilMed sinus kit (think Amazon have it) you can try rinsing out your sinuses with the sterile saline sachets. DON'T use tap water on its own, it will sting. Boiled, cooled water with the NeilMed sachet. If you've never rinsed your sinuses before, its a very weird feeling, just follow the instructions and breathe out of your mouth while you do it. Hopefully that will rinse out some of the gunk of there is mucous in there.
Sinusitis can be cause by a bacterial infection so if you've mucous in there that is green/brown or pus like, you probably need antibiotics.

I've never heard of a skin infection travelling to the sinuses but I suppose anything is possible!
I would advise extreme caution with using topical decongestants such as Vicks Sinex or Sudaphed nasal spray. The active ingredients do work, but the problem is that they work so well and so quickly that you begin to use more and more just to relieve the nasal congestion, and your nose becomes reliant on it to stay open. Although they are not "addictive" in the pharmacological sense, they cause a condition called Rhinitis Medicamentosa, which basically means congestion CAUSED by the medicine itself - the blood vessels swell and cause further congestion and you end up in a cycle of using the medication to breath through your nose, but its the medication CAUSING the congestion. They should never be used for longer than 3 consequtive days and with caution.
You could try a tablet decongestant such as Sudaphed tablets. Be sure to get the one with Pseudophedrine Hydrochloride as opposed to the Phenylephrine (its rubbish). You will have to ask for the good one over the counter at your local pharmacy as its kept behind the desk due to abuse of people using it to make "speed".
Warm compresses on your face might help the discomfort and assist in loosening anything up there.

Paracetamol and Ibuprofen taken alternatively every two hours is useful.
Be careful with paracetamol if you are taking other products which contain paracetamol (Lemsips etc).

Saline sprays are also good, you can use them as much as you want as they are non-medicated and they will lubricate and wash your sinuses. Try the STERIMAR range.

Above all, WASH WASH WASH out your sinuses with the proper kit but I advise caution of your ears are blocked or if your nose is completely blocked. Don't use too much pressure.

Hope you feel better soon.

I suffered massively witht his on and off for a few years, it's absolutely horrifically painful constantly!! - haven't had it in ages (touch wood).

The only painkiller which helped was ibuprofen, get some sudafed too.
A hot wet flannel over my nose/cheeks helped, breathe in the steam slowly through your nose.

I cleared the infection with homemade neti pot (you can make one out of a plastic drinks bottle) by flushing with warm salted water and it rids a lot of the built up and germy conjestion (blowing your nose is no good as it just hurts and makes the inflammation worse).

Call the docs first thing and get an antibiotics prescription on standby in case it doesnt clear by the weekend.

Also - breathe in steamed water, make sure the air in your house is humid (hang wet clothes up) and eat chillies!

Good luck!
