To not wear white?

Should the bride wear white to their hen do???

I love so many dresses but no are white! Would you think it better to stick to white? How surprised would you be if a bride didn't?

You say you're young - is this maybe for Instagram, so the bride stands out more? All my friends got married 10 years ago and it was very much not a thing then. Just wear your favourite dress or buy a new one!

merryhouse · 08/02/2022 11:08

Aren't you supposed to dress up as a penis?

(I'm 52... H's friend was considered quite fancy for having a "stag" (his two best friends plus me) that involved a night away Grin)

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 08/02/2022 11:12

I’ve never heard of this and I’m in my 20s, just wear whatever you want

JustForFunn · 08/02/2022 11:13

@NotTheMrMenAgain

Had no idea this was 'a thing'. Wear whatever you want. I didn't even wear white to my first wedding and I won't be at my second, either! Nobody died of shock.
I'm well aware nobody will die, thank you for your valuable input

Mummytobe93 · 08/02/2022 11:13

I wore black 😁

AnotherMansCause · 08/02/2022 11:15

Tradition is boring. I didn't even get married in white. And I'm older than you, by the sound of it...

SmithofSilver · 08/02/2022 11:18

I didn't even wear white to my wedding so there was no way I would have stuck to a silly rule for my hen either but I haven't even heard of wearing white to a hen.

yikesanotherbooboo · 08/02/2022 11:22

Not a thing in my world. Apart from anything else who has money for special outfits just before their wedding?

Sparklesocks · 08/02/2022 11:25

I think I’ve been to one hen do where the bride dressed in white. Every other I’ve been to (and there have been many!) they’ve worn whatever they like. Or it’s been fancy dress. There aren’t ‘rules’ for what the bride should or shouldn’t wear at hen dos, wear whatever you want to wear.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 08/02/2022 11:30

Was that an attempt at sarcasm, OP?
Since you didn't appreciate my first, truthful "valuable input" let me try again........

OMG, OP! You've like, totally got to wear white or it'll be SO confusing for people, they might not even realise it's a hen and you're the bride! People will be SO surprised if you don't wear white. Grin

Best of luck with it all OP, hope you enjoy your hen and have a lovely wedding (regardless of colour choice).

Eycaluptus · 08/02/2022 11:34

It's naff. I wore green. Everybody still knew I was the bride.

Eycaluptus · 08/02/2022 11:34

Everybody that counts

TurdCrapley · 08/02/2022 11:39

I get what you mean, OP. I see lots of brides on hen do's on Instagram and they're wearing white. I don't think it's that big of a thing though so just wear whatever you wantSmile

My hen do had a pink theme so I wore my favourite, bright pink dress💕

Xmassprout · 08/02/2022 11:40

Didn't even wear white for my actual wedding, let alone the hen do.

Wear whatever you like

Pbbananabagel · 08/02/2022 11:55

I wore white to my hen and the day after the wedding but my wedding dress was blue!

DappledThings · 08/02/2022 12:01

Never heard of this as a thing. Wear what you want. Anyone who gives instructions as to what colour clothing people are meant to wear for their hen do or even the actual wedding is ridiculous.

Classica · 08/02/2022 12:03

Had no idea this was a thing.

Wearing white to the races could be hazardous. I'm thinking mud and Guinness.

Liberate yourself and wear what you want. Be the talk of Instagram!

M0rT · 08/02/2022 12:04

You don't have to wear white if you don't want to, just be clear with whoever is organising the hen not to dictate a colour to the other women as you are wearing something that suits you.
A sash/veil is the norm if not wearing white.
Would make life a lot easier for everyone if you don't as it's hard enough finding something to wear to the races without being tied to a colour scheme too.

CurzonDax · 08/02/2022 12:04

The hen wearing white is definitely a thing - according to social media (I've never really heard of it outside of SM though, to be honest).
As I thought it was a 'thing', I desperately tried to find something white to wear for mine - I'm a bigger girl, and couldn't find anything I felt comfortable in, in white. In the end, I found a lovely green dress, felt absolutely amazing in it, and wore that.

Wear what you want/feel comfortable in!

sillysmiles · 08/02/2022 12:11

I didn't wearing white to my hen.
I didn't even think about it until a few hen parties after mine when I noticed the bride in white!
I wore something from my wardrobe, I didn't want to buy something new.

LaLaLouella · 08/02/2022 12:13

This is a 'younger generation than the average mumsnetter' thing I think!

The last few hen do's I've been to where the majority of the group have been in their early/mid twenties, the bride-to-be has worn white.

It makes you stand out as the bride - up to you wether it's important to you or not. If you can afford a new outfit then maybe have a look and see if you can find something fabulous in white!

buddylicious · 08/02/2022 12:25

I've never known a bride-to-be to wear white to her hen do, unless her friends have dressed her up in a dodgy wedding dress!

HollaHolla · 08/02/2022 12:26

I've never been to a hen do where the bride wore white.... Wear what you like, and enjoy yourself!

Colderthanever · 08/02/2022 12:28

Never been to a hen where the bride wore white.
