Tooth brushing! How often

Penfold91 · 08/02/2022 07:39

DP brushes teeth once per day in the morning - doesn’t bother before bed. I find it quite gross and have mentioned it several times and get arsey responses e.g. “ffs it’s like living with my mother”. Is it me? I thought brushing twice per day was just basic personal hygiene really!

Yes of course 2x a day. The bacteria start multiplying or something in your mouth after 12 hours or something like that so you need to brush twice.

alwaysmovingforwards · 08/02/2022 07:43

Morning and evening minimum!!
Whilst I’ve been wfh I quite like the habit of a post-lunch these days also.

Momicrone · 08/02/2022 08:23

Like living with his mum?, what a cock

3Daddy31982 · 08/02/2022 09:48

He sounds smelly. How do you engage in intercourse with sewer breath? Yukky. Such a turn off.

heyitsthistle · 08/02/2022 09:49

Eurgh, that's pretty disgusting. I'd refuse to give him a goodnight kiss!

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 08/02/2022 09:52

Gross. Of course you need to brush your teeth twice a day, including before bed.
Then he's really rude to you on top of that. So a rude, smelly man - not someone I would want to be with, OP.

It's manky, though I think I'd be pissed off more with this comment, tosser!
IDontHaveThePelvisForAFuton · 08/02/2022 10:05

Eww thats grim. Can't he swap his lazy once-a-day routine for bedtime instead?

Apparently brushing right after breakfast, or any meal, is bad as food (acid or whatever) softens the enamel and it's a bad time to brush. So we should brush before meals. Mind blown Shock

Penfold91 · 08/02/2022 10:12

Thanks everyone- I think I ought to show him these replies! Grin

If you're going to only brush once a day, it's most important to brush before bedtime so the fluoride works overnight.

It doesn't really matter when you brush for the second time - when you get up, mid-morning, after lunch - but you shouldn't brush straight after eating.

Brushing once straight after breakfast is probably harming his teeth.

merryhouse · 08/02/2022 11:05

I brush once, before bed. Have done since about 1990.

Grew up brushing after every meal (that was the advice back in the 70s).

Teeth and gums are no worse now than they were then.

internetpersonme · 08/02/2022 11:12

Thats revolting! Did you brush his teeth at night before the wedding and stop after you married?!

QuizzicalEyebrows · 08/02/2022 11:30

So you don't snog then at night ever Shock

HunterHearstHelmsley · 08/02/2022 11:33

Yuck! Does he go to the dentist?!

I brush and tepe in the morning, and brush and floss at night. I'll mouthwash a couple of times in the day and will maybe brush again if I've had some particularly stinky or with lots of bits!

QuizzicalEyebrows · 08/02/2022 11:33

I would never ever share my bed with a man who can't be arsed to brush his teeth. Grim

This is what my husband does, he just has a clean mouth, his dentist changed his dental plan as he doesn’t need to see the hygienist at all, it isn’t fair.
Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2022 22:16

I think brushing in the morning can be nicer for other people even if you don’t have any bother at the dentist yourself.
And flossing too.

Sportslady44 · 09/02/2022 14:43

before bed is so important.

A good routine is morning and night with mouthwash at night too a capful.

Flossing can also help.

YerAWizardHarry · 09/02/2022 14:46

@Sportslady44 actually mouth wash isn’t recommended unless it’s at a separate time from brushing. I washing the fluoride from the toothpaste away

SophiesMummySaid · 09/02/2022 14:55

Brush at night to keep your teeth.
Brush in the morning to keep your friends.

Sportslady44 · 09/02/2022 15:40

mouthwash at night after brushing is what dentist told me a capful

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2022 22:58

@SophiesMummySaid

Brush at night to keep your teeth. Brush in the morning to keep your friends.
Spot on! It’s all very well to say you only clean at night and you are a dentist’s dream. But not brushing in the morning is horrible. My dentist thinks mouthwash is a waste of time for gum/teeth health and definitely no rinsing after brushing.
