White voile/net curtains

I’m talking plain white. I know they are despised on here and classed as old fashioned but I’ve just gone on Pinterest as typed living room ideas and the first few I saw had them. Are they back in? Or still seen as hideous?

Don’t know if this will work but this is what I mean

Have some for the French doors in living room- they were the only affordable option and I'm not very up to date with modern trends

Shiningpath · 07/02/2022 22:06

That’s a voile panel not a net curtain.

LuckyAmy1986 · 07/02/2022 22:07

They’re not panels

I actually have half nets in my downstairs loo. They were given to me by my mum who bought them abroad. They are quite heavy and I think they are cotton and have a pattern of flower pots with flowers going across. I love them and mean I don't have to put up a blind.

TwoBlondes · 07/02/2022 22:11

I have Ikea white linen curtains, I needed to filter the sunlight in some rooms.

FlamingRoses · 07/02/2022 22:15

I have them. I think they look nice personally but I do what I like in my own home!

pickingdaisies · 07/02/2022 22:17

The thing is, regardless of whether they are "in" or not, voile (sounds better then net) curtains are still the most practical solution if you want added privacy without losing light. Full length plain voile always looks ok anyway. (I've got some cheap plain ones from IKEA, temporary solution been up two years already).

Mermaidwaves · 07/02/2022 22:18

I'm old fashioned and just bought some! I've moved to a house and my living room faces straight onto the street with no privacy. I despise blinds, they look awful and utilitarian to me, plus I hate how they clank if you open a window Angry

Classic nets were really hard to find though! I searched nearly everywhere and eventually found some in an old fashioned fabric shop. They are the classic kind with flowers on. I'm the only house in our street to have them, everyone else has the obligatory blinds. At least mine are original right now Smile

LuckyAmy1986 · 07/02/2022 22:20

I personally love the look of them but I know how hated they are! I was going to get them anyway but was surprised to see them when scouring.. it wouldn’t make a difference if they are on trend or not to me but was just wondering if they were “back in” since I’d seen them on Pinterest

What type of window?

I think a voile blind is a far better option than net curtains. Stops people looking in, allows light in and works well with decorative blinds and curtains. Voile inside the window recess and blind/curtain outside.

ApricotPeony · 07/02/2022 22:21

They had them on the recent Sex and the City reboot and they are normally very stylish

LuckyAmy1986 · 07/02/2022 22:22

Totally agree about the privacy and lighting aspect

I don't like old fashioned net curtains, the ones hanging on a wire with lacey patterns. But I think plain voiles hung from a pole are lovely and look more modern. At the end of the day it's your house you should decorate in whatever way suits you.

ApricotPeony · 07/02/2022 22:23

I mean they had plain voiles not net curtains

LuckyAmy1986 · 07/02/2022 22:23

@GoingBacktoSchool123 it’s a bay window

IKEA plain white sheer cotton curtains are a nice alternative. Put whatever you want on your windows! It's your house & your privacy

LuckyAmy1986 · 07/02/2022 22:31

The ikea ones look nice. I think I’m definitely going to have them. I do like the look of the white blinds but I just want the full view not through slats!

I don't like the frilly flowery ones, I much prefer just plain white nets/voiles. Have them throughout the house because I like the light they allow & also don't want neighbours and passers-by peering in. On thin stretchy wires ;)

Whitefire · 07/02/2022 22:38

I had a voile / net at my previous house. In their wisdom the house builder had built our house and the neighbours as the opposite hand. The result of this was that we both had a window facing each other. This window allowed a very good view into the other house as it was half way up the stairs which were in the lounge. You only want to see your neighbour walking across his landing in his underpants once.

I used a tension rod rather than wire to hang them. Fit whatever works best for you.

Pemba · 07/02/2022 23:34

No voile is in I think. DD(20s) just put them up in her new house. It's nets that are seen as old fashioned, often the ones with big patterns. Voiles are floaty and elegant!

Gives you privacy combined with light as pp said. I like them combined with blinds (venetian or roman, not those vertical office style ones).

Think yourself lucky @Whitefire - at least he was wearing pants! Grin
