AIBU to consider renting with landlord living above?

As above. Saw a lovely flat in London but the landlord lives directly above me. She has a terrace that looks directly onto what would be my yard below. Would you see this as a deal breaker?

I think it could be good to have the landlord on site - you know the place will be looked after and any repairs should be done speedily.

Not so good if you are planning on being a terrible tenant though! Grin

I have turned down several rentals as the LL lived in the same road, let alone above the property. No way!

Noooo. I'd feel so paranoid!

Aprilx · 07/02/2022 19:05

It wouldn’t bother me.

As long as you have nothing to hide what's the problem?

Littlegoth · 07/02/2022 19:06

Thinking back to my last 2 very over involved landlords, no way.

RitaFires · 07/02/2022 19:10

It's a tough one, it could mean they're more interested in maintaining the property because they live above or it could mean they'll want to check in on you and the flat all the time and you won't get much time to yourself.

It wouldn't bother me at all... I guess if you're likely to do something the landlord wouldn't approve of (like loud parties etc) then it's maybe not great, but if you plan to live a very quiet life and keep the place clean and tidy then I wouldn't worry. As others have said, the landlord will be easy to contact and likely to look after the place.

Because not all landlords are good people who will just let you live in peace!
Cookiecrumblepie · 07/02/2022 19:43

I would be a good tenant so thinking it won’t be an issue, but just thinking whether it’s worth it or not. Maybe I should just wait to get something without the potential issue.

Not a chance

Chichimcgee · 07/02/2022 19:47

No way!
I wouldn’t be able to relax, I’d be tiptoeing everywhere, watching the tv on mute and obsessively cleaning just incase he pops round

Rewis · 07/02/2022 19:52

I would proceed with caution. However its not automatic dealbreaker especially if the price is good.
