11 weeks pregnant, bled once

Hi there,

Sorry I'm new to this but wanted some advice. I have just turned 11 weeks pregnant and i know that for sure as i had a baby scan last week. We found out we were having twins and they alwere absolutely fine, scan was done at 10 weeks 3 days.

However as i turned 11 weeks, i run a lot ore pregnancy so i decided to do a 12 mile run very slowly and chilled. Felt no pain otherwise would have stopped. Then later that day i bled once as i wiped and then nothing has come since. I called my midwife but they said to try my best to not worry and wait for my official 12 week scan a week today.

Should I be worried? I can't stop googling.. The worst :( and did anyone else go through this?

Thanks a lot xx

I ran a lot through both my pregnancies. Generally the risk from running is that you fall, not from the actual running itself.

I also had bleeding at 8 weeks. They today me this was 'anniversary' bleeding, not sure if there is a better English equivalent to this term, this is my best translation. It basically meant that for a couple of months your body still goes through the hormonal ups and downs of menstruation and so I bled a little when I was due my period.

The amount that you had doesn't sound huge. I know it's difficult but you have to back away from Dr Google and try hard to relax. Just keep alert and keep your midwife updated if you see any more.

Good luck x

Thanks so much. I haven't had any bleeding till now and I've just gone 11 weeeks. I have run throughout, although I have been a lot slower and taken a lot more breaks during intervals sessions when I feel like i needed it. Which is what I was advised and have stuck to.

It's reassuring to hear you had a spurt of this too and nothing was wrong.

Just hoping the scan next week goes all ok.

I have barely slept but hoping now I can relax a bit more about yesterday!

All the best for you x

I’d back away from Google I know it’s tough. I’ve bled in all 3 of my healthy pregnancies (I didn’t know I was pregnant with DS1 because I assumed I’d had my period!) with Ds2 I was bleeding all the way through daily.
I’ve also had 3 miscarriages but I’d say stay positive! Fingers crossed for you

I honestly don't think bleeding is an indicator of anything sinister necessarily.

My experience:
Babies 1 and 2: No bleeding, both totally fine.
Baby 3: Tiny bit of bleeding, nothing to worry about, but died at 9 weeks
Baby 5: Loads of 'thin' bleeding, died at 4 weeks
Baby 6: No bleeding whatsoever, baby died at 9 weeks after two healthy scans
Baby 7: Extremely heavy, 'thick' bleeding with giant clots. This happened three times, baby totally fine.

So, you can tell how bleeding seems to have no correlation over the outcome of a pregnancy (at least in my case).
I did avoid exercise after the 2nd loss because I'm a runner and was terrified that that was causing our losses.
I was told by medical staff that more often than not, babies will miscarry due to a chromosome problem (which is what mine had), and not because of anything you do. I can totally understand the fear, I ended up terrified to move from the sofa! But I do think gentle exercise is good for your mental wellbeing and stamina, and helps with birth too if you're fit.

Best of luck with your lovely twins!

Thank you so much. I worried myself so much I just went for a private scan. Both babies are well!! Both have strong heart beats and growing at a good rate. Just got to get next week's scan done to complete the first trimester.
She couldn't pin down why i bled yesterday but it could have been anything.
Thanks so much for sharing your stories and support xx

That’s great news and totally worth the private scan to stop you worrying and googling :)

GaspingGekko · 07/02/2022 19:39

Ah that's great news OP. I'm glad you were in a position to be able to do that. A week is a long time to drive yourself mad about that kind of thing.

Fabulous news!
I remember the panic sooooo clearly. One of many reasons I couldn't do it ever again Grin

I am so happy things are going well for you. A private scan is great to put the mind at ease. Wishing you all the best
