I’m so nervous about changing jobs in the next few weeks, it’s really starting to seem real, any tips on dealing with the nerves. I’m starting to doubt myself that I’m making the right decision, is this normal?!

I run a business and we have a new joiner tomorrow (who I hope will grown in to being my right hand man) and I'm quite anxious a out it - how to make him welcome, how to train him up, how to ensure he can be successful. Remember your new boss is a human too Grin

PickledOnionSandwich · 06/02/2022 19:47

Totally normal. I’m sure you’ll be fine once you’ve settled in a bit.

ByMyName · 06/02/2022 19:51

I hear you OP. Definitely normal to feel nervous. Remember that they hired you because they believe you will be a good fit! I’m sure it will be fine.

You will be great! Yes you will be nervous but the nerves won't last long 💪 best of luck ❤️

Thank you everyone. After being in my job for so long I’m just majorly doubting myself and everything that has been a reason towards me to looking to leave now suddenly doesn’t seem to bad , such an emotional rollercoaster. I think it’s just the fear that I’m doing the wrong thing even though I know it’s a great opportunity

@Rainydays55 what type of work are you going into? Is it the same type of role?

Rainydays55 · 13/02/2022 18:15

Similar role but completely different industry

How did your interview go, have you met the team, was it in person/on video?
What specifically is it thats making you feel nervous, the thought of retraining in a new role or loyalty to your current employer? How long have you been where you are now?

Rainydays55 · 14/02/2022 17:57

Ive been where I am now for 10 years, I think it’s just the thought of change! I felt my interview went well, it was in person but I’ve not met the whole team. I’m worried about being the newbie again and then thinking I’m not doing a good job.

Bless you, it's normal to feel like this especislly after such a long time where you are but after a week or two and you settle in that feeling will subside. Hopefully you have a really supportive new manager and team who can offer support and reassurance when needed.
I would be upfront with your new boss regards how you are feeling so they know and can help during those first few settling in days.

Yabyboda · 14/02/2022 19:34

The nerves are exciting though as means something new is on the horizon :) it sounds like you've been doing similar for 10 years it's just a different sector, but you'll learn all of that and you already have the skills and knowledge you need for the core job. I started a new job a few weeks ago but I bloody love it after feeling really nervous!

Best of luck...when are you starting? That will be me in a few weeks. I have been in my current role for nearly 10 years too 😅 you have 1 advantage on me...my interview (only one) was remote. I am nervous too.
Rainydays55 · 15/02/2022 14:06

Do you have any tips for the first couple of weeks settling in @Yabyboda? It’s great to hear you are enjoying your role!
Good luck @froggybiby! What role will you be doing?
I start in about three weeks time.

I start on 8th March. I will be working in the customer service team of a British manufacturer, international team. Very different from what I am doing now: engineering stores administrator. From an all male environment into an all girl's team.

CurzonDax · 17/02/2022 11:38

Absolutely normal - I remember when I started my current role, I walked into the office on the first day with my hands shaking! Within the first hour, my team put me completely at ease though.

I am sure your team will do exactly the same to you - remember they appointed YOU for a reason - they liked you, and believe you have the skillset that they need.

Good luck!
