Help, my dog is poorly

Posting here for traffic.

Dog has been fine all day - at 4:30ish she threw up. It looked like a pile of poo. 20 minutes later she threw up again 3 times one after another, huge piles. I’ve never seen so much sick from one animal.
Half hour later she’s wandering around pacing, whining, staring at the wall and digging at the wooden floor before taking herself off into another room and throwing up again.

All in all she’s been sick 7 times. No diarrhoea. Poo has been normal all day. She’s now very quiet, almost lethargic, looks very worried with herself.

Does this warrant out of hours vets? Any idea what it could be?? I’m so worried

God, they’re such a worry. Hope she’s ok. Be careful what the vet does. I think mine was poisoned once, the vet gave him an anti-emetic which was not helpful. Horrible day he had, lying in my arms whilst I thought he was dying.

Namensandurung · 06/02/2022 20:16

You've definitely done the right thing OP. Hope all is OK.

Lifeispassingby · 06/02/2022 20:16

Hopefully the vet will agree to see you- sounds like she is really suffering bless her. There is a really serious sickness bug going round dogs at the moment and vets are advising treatment for those case rather than the wait and see you might normally do x

Susu49 · 07/02/2022 10:23

@ShittyFingers how is she today?

Phos · 07/02/2022 10:37

Hope she’s ok. Like some pp have said there is a nasty vomiting and diarrhoea bug going around dogs just now.

jytdtysrht · 07/02/2022 10:59

Hope she’s ok. My dog spent 3 days in the vet hospital with similar.

Redpriestandmozart · 07/02/2022 14:31

@ShittyFingers any update today? Just hoping everything is ok with you.

StormBaby · 07/02/2022 14:33

The vet will give an anti-emetic. If it’s the virus that’s doing the rounds, the vomiting will stop. If there is a blockage, it will not

Namensandurung · 09/02/2022 20:32

Have been wondering how your dog is OP. Hope all is OK.

MinorWomensWhiplash1 · 09/02/2022 20:58

Hope she’s ok, there’s a vomiting bug going around as others have said, mine’s had it recently.

AutomaticMoon · 09/02/2022 21:00

Oh no, I had this last week with my whippet but she was better after some days. There’s a Stomach Settler on Amazon you can order, haven’t tried it yet. I gave mine the probiotic powder out of my Garden of Eden digestive capsules, dunno if it helped.

AutomaticMoon · 09/02/2022 21:04

They might put your dog on fluids if dehydrated. I was lucky that she just got better, only threw up many times one day, which was scary enough, I’ve never had her unable to keep even water down, she’s built like an ox, the size of a male whippet.

I read online that you can inject saline into pets to rehydrate them but wouldn’t risk it unless desperate.

Kind of off topic, I’d like to recommend Veterinarian Secrets on youtube. Apparently Panacur (with vit a + e) has anti cancer activity in dogs/cats/humans. He has lots of good content.

Please don't encourage people to inject their pets at home. And that Panacur statement is utter nonsense (I'm a vet).

Our dog had this over past 2 days. Was sick loads, couldn’t keep anything down.

Started at 5pm and still sick next morning so took to vet in afternoon.

Given an anti emetic and fingers crossed it’s stopped. Slowly improving on day 3 and started eating. Lost a lot of weight.

Was very scary.

Redpriestandmozart · 11/02/2022 11:05

The OP hasn't updated but has two other threads running to say they were testing for Parvo.

@ShittyFingers how is your dog? I hope she is fully recovered now.

ShittyFingers · 11/02/2022 11:42

Hi, sorry guys - update -

The sickness and diarrhoea has stopped but she’s still very quiet. Now my little dog has got it.
Parvo test was negative. It’s this awful bug that’s going around

Susu49 · 11/02/2022 11:48

Glad she's recovering, op, but I'm sorry you're little dog has caught it- awful for them and you must be so worried still. Have either of them needed admission for treatment?

Redpriestandmozart · 12/02/2022 07:54

oh my goodness you poor thing, two sick dogs is no fun not to mention the cost. This sickness bug is horrendous, I'm glad one is on the mend. Hopefully, a few days will make all the difference.
