To spend money on period pants?

I have the most horrendous periods - I won’t go into detail but the flooding, leaking and huge clots are big problems for me and have a big impact on my life.

I don’t use tampons because they’d just flood so instead I wear sanitary towels that I have to change every 1-2 hours as a minimum.

I’m so done with it. I’m fed up of not being able to leave my house when I’m on my period for fear of leaking and I’m fed up of of having to sit and sleep on towels and I’m really fed up of throwing clothes away because they are ruined by huge floods.

I have been reading about period pants and although they are expensive I’m thinking they may be my only option.

I was talking to my good friend about it and she said that in my circumstances period pants would be pointless as they wouldn’t be able to cope with my flow and clots. She said I would just be wasting my money.

It made me feel really upset because I can’t cope anymore with the impact my period has in my life and I really thought they might be a life changer for me.

AIBU to at least try even them even if it so expensive?

Has anyone else used them for very heavy periods?

I’m one step away from asking for a hysterectomy! I am just so fed up with it all Sad

The tiredness is horrible Paddle, but I think I’m so used to it that I don’t know any different anymore. I absolutely dread it every month… when I was at work today I had 2 super towels on, then a second pair of knickers on, also with two super towels on and still within two hours of being at work I had leaked through my work trousers. It’s so mortifying.
**@DontWantTheRivalry what about local contraception like the coil? You're right it's no way to live

I’ve had the Coil twice before and if anything I bled more. I bled every day for about 6 months so I had it removed.

I have told my GP that I don’t want a coil so they’ve now just sort of left me to get on with it Sad
Was minera or copper coil? Copper would make your periods even heavier.

Oh my god! I want to give you the biggest hug, because that is just so miserable! I'm so sorry that's your reality, it's entirely not ok. I really really hope you get that gynaecology referral sooner rather than later, there must be something that can be done. Honestly, hats off to you I just don't know how you cope or even get in to work whilst dealing with all that. You must be a very level headed / "get on with it" type of person because I'd have been in a&e telling them I was dying years ago! Not many things pique my anxiety but that level of bleeding (and I presume pain?) would do it for me. Xxx

I was the same and Mirena changed my life. Can it possibly be worse than what you have?

I flood. I bought a couple of heavy duty period pants and love them! I can't wear them for the 12 hours, that's a bit too long but 8 hours is fine. No more sleeping on towels here. They are expensive so you could just buy two and see how you get on? Best case scenario you wash them by hand so you can wear them again tomorrow 😁

As a side note, tripling your dose of oral iron won't help, evidence shows it just increases side effects with no further absorption. I am surprised you were prescribed this dose as it changed many years ago!

I was first prescribed it for anaemia 18 months ago and was prescribed three tablets every other day. After a few months my symptoms hadn’t resolved at all so I was then told to take three tablets every day instead.

I can’t say it’s made much difference though.

No, it probably hasn't made much difference. If you take every day the body just absorbs less.

For max absorption take on an empty stomach and wait at least an hour before eating, and take a vitamin c supplement with them. Avoid tea and coffee for at least an hour before and after taking iron.

I had a Mirena both times.
