AIBU to think Supermarkets shouldn't make you preload discounts onto your storecard

I'm a bit fed up with swipping my store card only to discover I missed out on any discount because I didn't pre-select the discount. M&S are the worst and I now realise Co-op are doing it too. If you have a store card and swipe it surely you should get the bloody offers that are on. I think it's a trick and at a time when everything is getting so expensive the least the supermarkets could do is give their card holders the offers. Totally bugs me!!

Totally agree

Yes - a serious pain

I agree, it's just a lot of bollocks to stack thing in the store's favour - they're happy to take our data, but we have to faff around remembering to pre-activate any offers.

I think Morrisons does this too and Lidl

I like Asda: no loyalty cards, very few offers, just cheap but good quality.

APurpleSquirrel · 06/02/2022 18:22

Sainsburys do both - you get points offers each week which need to be preloaded on to your card before they'll work; but also Your Nectar Prices which are discounts on items you buy regularly & other bits which come off automatically from your shop & can be used multiple times during the week.
Personally I make sure I load all offers up when I'm writing my shop list so I can take advantage of as many offers as possible & structure our meals around them.

I hated when Boots moved their points to the app and you had to load them before a purchase cos inevitably at that time, the data signal was utter rubbish (before malls/shops had reasonable WiFi).

Think I might switch to them!

I was thinking about this in co op today. Why do you have to select 2? Why can’t they just give you whichever 2 are in your shop? It’s just designed to make you forget and not bother whilst seeming to be giving great customer service.

Exactly! If we have the store card and are there shopping and using it you would think they could give you the discount. It's very annoying
