I’m 34 but the skin on my back thinks I’m still a teenager (sadly the only part of my body to think so). Has been spotty my whole adult life. Cleared a bit during the handful of sun holidays I’ve been on, but then always came back.
Anyone who’s had a similar problem, did you manage to find anything that cleared it up? Tea tree is just not cutting it, looking for something strong to nuke the buggers!

I use benzoyl peroxide on my back every night, this clears my back up completely. It also bleaches my sheets but worth it! I stopped using it after my holiday in October as I thought I would see if bacne had stopped for me (hadn't had a spot in ages) and it came back with full avengeance after a month, and is taking time to get rid of again. Will never stop using it again! I bought it from the USA and used to sell it on eBay before eBay banned me (didn't realise it has to be a licensed product for the UK) but think others are still selling it. I use the brand Rugby benzoyl peroxide 10%>

You could also try Panoxyl benzoyl peroxide 10% wash, again people sell it on eBay and it is very very popular.

Maybe it will be a benefit of getting older?

Not my back, but my face - always had problems with spots and acne from a teenager to probably mid or late 30's.
If anyone had told me 30 years ago that I'd one day have perfectly clear skin AND put oil on it everyday i'd have thought they were nuts!

OhWifey · 06/02/2022 00:10

For me it's massively reducing dairy and sugar which has really helped. I'm not sure which one but I've a feeling it's both, weighted towards dairy.

Utini · 06/02/2022 00:12

Mine mostly cleared up when I went gluten free.

I also worked out that my conditioner was exacerbating it, I used to wash while leaving it in my hair then rinse it out last thing, switching to washing with shower gel after rinsing off the conditioner helped a bit.

StrychnineIntheSandwiches · 06/02/2022 00:14

Yeah don't let your hair hang down your back when there's conditioner in it. Also try using a BHA spray on your back. I think Paula's Choice does one.

ihaveonecat · 06/02/2022 00:15

This shifted mine
I had tried murad back spray, acid toner, hibiscrub, duac, everything
I lather this up on a back brush and let it sit for a few mins and rinse off

Exfoliating regularly with a Korean skincare mitt and plain water works best for me. Like facial acne, drying my skin out with washes and tea tree makes it fight back by producing more oil.

coffeeschmoffee · 06/02/2022 00:16

hibiscrub

coffeeschmoffee · 06/02/2022 00:16

Also like the soap above. very effective

Yes conditioner is really bad for mine too. And fabric softener.

Don't touch your back with your hands. I found myself scraping at my backne with my fingernails when watching kids play sport, or watching TV or anytime I was bored, absent mindedly trying to pop the heads. As soon as I made a conscious decision not to touch my back during the day all spots vanished and now back is clear, and has been for years Shower with good massage sponge, but otherwise don't touch!

AnchorWHAT · 06/02/2022 09:39

Yes another who says salicylic acid soap bar, i use one on my face and in the shower.

ChuckGarabedian · 06/02/2022 15:16

Thanks everyone, some great suggestions here.

For me there are three things that exacerbate it. Conditioner if there's residue left on my back, touching it makes it worse and just spreads the spots. My dressing gown needs to be washed very regularly and at a high heat to keep bacteria at bay.

Korean Italy cloths are amazing. One of the best things I've bought on a MN recommendation.
