Asthma Attack

FanciedChange · 05/02/2022 13:37

I've had asthma all my life; severe in childhood, mostly mild to moderate in adulthood. Like many asthmatics, I absolutely hate going to hospital and only go if I actually collapse.

Last night, I probably should have gone. I was struggling to breathe but after about 12 puffs of inhaler I could breathe so I just stayed home. Today I am knackered and a bit breathless but can control it with my inhaler. I've also just come out of my covid isolation.

DH doesn't seem to realise how crap you feel after an asthma attack like this and is letting me rest now but I'm getting distinct eye-rolling vibes. AIBU to think he's been a bit unfair?

Has he actually said something to you, or are you just getting "vibes?" I would say a "vibe" is open to interpretation, and you're potentially reading into it something that isn't there.

You shouldn't use your rescue inhaler that many times; maybe you need to look at getting a nebulizer.

Ljmumun · 05/02/2022 13:44

OK if your using your blue inhaler that frequently you need seeing. Do you have an urgent care centre near you? You may just need some oral steroids but if your 7to 10 days post covid you are at risk of relapse. Please don't mess around asthma can kill. I work in respiratory care.so do know what I'm saying. Either urgent care or 111 now.

Maflingo · 05/02/2022 13:50

Perhaps the eye-rolling is because he thinks you should have gone to A&E last night - or urgent care now if you are still feeling so awful and using your inhaler that much.
I know that sounds harsh, but you don’t fuck about with asthma. If you’re still using your blue one often today then it’s not under control is it? Please get checked OP

This isn't true. We are encouraged to have as many puffs of blue as needed even if that's 20 puffs.

But I would strongly encourage you to go get checked. It could be oxygen levels are low and there my be a need from some more help from medical professional.

girlmom21 · 05/02/2022 13:53

YABU to have not gone to the hospital if you feel you should have. Call 111 for advice and ignore any bad vibes.

That is not what my doctor has told me, and a previous poster seems to agree with me. 🤷‍♀️

FanciedChange · 05/02/2022 13:59

I do have a record for being a bit irresponsible with my asthma... he does (rightly) get annoyed at me for that. I should just go get checked out, even if I feel like a that if my oxygen levels are OK etc

Agree with pp that you need to be seen by a medical professional (and should have gone to hospital).

At the very least, call your gp!

Ljmumun · 05/02/2022 14:07

www.asthma.org.uk/advice/manage-your-asthma/when-to-go-to-hospital/ please seen the guidance here from asthma UK. Use of blue inhalers more that 3 time a week indicates poor control. . On going sx needing repeated use and effecting activity need seeing today. I agree with your DP stop putting it off. To the pp comment re 20 puff. Yes use that to mange an acute attack while waiting for help is what your GP means
