I had one a good number of years ago after I broke my nose and could no longer breathe through it. I have had nostrils that collapsed rather than flared when I breathed in. I was used to not breathing through my nose so didn't find recovery too bad. Wasn't that keen on splints being removed but it was quick and was more of a weird feeling than painful. Swollen for a while after but did help. I still mouth breathe at night but nose breath when relaxed and awake.

My symptoms were blocked on one side. Sinus pressure and problems with congestion.

It healed quickly. I would recommend getting them to pull both sides of the cotton wool out together after the op.

I had it done about 12 years ago, it wasn't too bad. The worst bit is when they leave your nose blocked after the surgery so you can only breathe through your mouth.
My throat was very sore from the intubating as well. Pain wise I didn't find it bad at all, it did hurt the first winter after the surgery though.

I had it for a badly deviated nasal septum. I remember that summer - I woke up with the pain the first few nights but it soon subsided. As others have said, removing the splints was “interesting”. Not painful but weird.

The surgery improved my life immensely - I’ve been able to breathe through my nose for the last 29 years and as far as I recall I couldn’t before that.

My sleep quality before that was awful.

I had mine for a deviated septum too, the worst part was my throat which must have been caught with the breathing equipment. The bruising and the smell was the worst part for me. I had this horrid smell of healing flesh in my nose for ages and it made me feel so sick. They left a bump on my nose after the op and I went back to have that fixed was no where near as bad as the first and no horrid smell

I can’t remember them removing the splints as others have said. Iv also been put to sleep several times since and never woke with a painful throat since. I remember having to get something to numb my throat from the drs and that wiggly bit inbetween your tonsils had swelled that much it was resting on the back of my tongue 🤢

Thank you guys!

I haven't been able to breathe through my nose for a while and it's a nightmare. I always wake up with a very dry mouth and cracked lips because Iv been breathing through my mouth all night.

I still haven't been seen so not sure exactly what is going on but from reading online I think I might need septoplasty so that's why I thought to get some info on it.

I just hope I get seen soon. I just feel like I have a cold 24/7 rarely any sense of taste and smell😩 I miss just being able to breathe through my nose and enjoying food lol

I've had two and refused a third.

They have made sod all difference.
The first was not that horrific. The second was. The third would have been absolutely disgustingly invasive as they wanted to do a lot more work.

The second one "lasted" about 2 months after recovery and then there was no benefit at all.

They also appear on lists of procedures not worth the time and effort

I forgot my throat hurt after too, but not for very long, just a couple of days. My op was about 3.5 hours. I've only had a general one other time (quite recently) and was nearer an hour and throat didn't hurt after that. Maybe tube wasn't down so far, who knows!
