To doubt GP?

So went to the docs yesterday and GP took a quick look at this and diagnosed shingles. Literally 10 seconds, checked the rest of my torso and that was that.

I've had a read and don't have the pain that's supposed to come with it or the general malaise.

Only other symptom is that under the same arm and down the side of my boob is quite tender so I think lymph nodes are swollen.

I just Google pics of shingles and it just doesn't look like them. They're not pearly or blistering or oozing.

I thought I'd somehow been eaten alive by fleas (cats are treated) or some kind of insect bites and was worried it was turning into cellulitis.

I don't want to look like an idiot by going back but equally don't feel like it really matches. Has anyone else had this or think it's worth going back?

I would get a second opinion from a pharmacist?

Ownedbyabeagle · 04/02/2022 23:24

That's exactly what mine looked like and I didn't have any pain either. I was a bit tired for a couple of days.

Whatsherusername · 04/02/2022 23:44

Just looking at the pic and before reading your post i thought shingles as mine looked like this at the start and was very itchy like i had been bitten by several gnats. They blistered and became painful a few days later

Guavaf1sh · 04/02/2022 23:46

Looks like shingles

Stressedmummyof4 · 04/02/2022 23:52

My DS had shingles two years ago when he was just 8, he had no pain just this rash type that you are showing we also went to Gp who said it was shingles and I had to check with the school regarding and teachers that may have been pregnant at the time. He couldn't be around them if they hadn't had chicken pox so maybe worth taking this into consideration if you have somewhere to be!

WaitingForEgg · 04/02/2022 23:52

You have shingles

Theballoonsinthesky · 05/02/2022 00:08

Yep my shingles looked like that before blistering and they weren't painful at all for me

ladydimitrescu · 05/02/2022 00:12

Yep shingles - I have them right now too. Although my rash has gone, the side of the body they were on is still swollen and sore.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 05/02/2022 00:14

Shingles is very characteristic and I am not surprised it would only take a Gp a few secs to diagnose it. It's the dermatomal distribution that makes it hard for it to be anything else

FictionalCharacter · 05/02/2022 02:34

I looked at the pic and immediately thought shingles. GPs can recognise it quickly because they see loads of cases.

StripedMousse · 05/02/2022 02:37

Does look like mild shingles. Nurse told me they’re seeing lots in the last year.

Chichimcgee · 05/02/2022 02:39

I think it’s difficult when you Google because it lists all the symptoms, all the stages, all the pictures. Everyone is different though and can have it mild or severe etc
GP will have seen so many cases so I wouldn’t question it.

OrangeShark27 · 05/02/2022 02:40

Thats how mine looked initially, then it blistered and became really painful. Actually was the pharmacist who said shingles first, GP said no because it wasn't painful! So you can always visit the pharmacist for quick look

4plusus · 05/02/2022 02:50

My son had exactly the same rash as that but on his back, it was shingles, hope you feel better soon 🙂

endofagain · 05/02/2022 03:07

Looks like shingles. I hope the gp prescribed antivirals. If not, you need to contact them again and ask. The sooner you take them the better.

Pippa12 · 05/02/2022 03:13

I’ve also got shingles right now, on my face. I was sceptical at the gps diagnosis at first first like you, but yikes! Let’s just say it’s been down hill from then.

Starcrossed2 · 05/02/2022 07:08

Thank you so much for all the reassurances! The gp said I'd caught it early, though it had been there about 4/5 days before I saw them. Fingers crossed it doesn't become worse because it sounds horrible if it does!

GeneLovesJezebel · 05/02/2022 07:10

I had three blisters in a line and no pain.
I do think it looks like shingles.

Policyschmolicy · 05/02/2022 07:13

My immediate thought was shingles, before I had read your post. It’s quite characteristic, the rash follows a dermatome (area of skin supplied by a single nerve fibre). Looks like it’s early - do you have antivirals?

TyrannosaurusRegina · 05/02/2022 07:34

It looks like shingles. Hopefully it stays as just a rash. Please be careful with your contact around women who may be pregnant.

BippityBoppityBloop · 05/02/2022 10:41

It's shingles, DS had it recently, after his covid jab, he got the pain a week after the rash, he had a week of Acyclovir and it cleared up quite quickly, although the pain lasted a few weeks.

JeremyWadesBigRod · 05/02/2022 10:42

Looks like shingles to me.
Do you know how long it takes to train as a GP? Hmm

Mercurial123 · 05/02/2022 11:23

I guess your GP knows their job and not Google.

mummyh2016 · 05/02/2022 11:36

Mine looked like that, same as you I was shocked as I wasn't poorly. Just a bit of tiredness but I'd been on a Caribbean holiday only a week or so before so I just thought it was jet lag.
