Birth Giving Day

I just heard an American woman using this on a live insta ...how cringe. She announced proudly that her daughter is 13 and that it's her birth giving day. Is the daughter not allowed to have her own birthday without the mother exclaiming that it's her birth giving day ? I assume her own mother didn't do this it just seems so new age and narcissistic - and they all smiled at her and said happy birth giving day.

I thought this was going to be the new Mothers day.

But your kids birthday is for them. Not the parent

(Although DH and I often raise a glass in the evenings to congratulate ourselves for keeping them alive another year Grin)

I sometimes wish my friends a happy birth day on their children’s birthdays. I’ve never thought of myself as new age. Blush I think it’s nice to mark that birth is a momentous occasion for women. Kids on the other hand don’t even remember being born.

I think I need more context. Who was this woman, why was she on television? Does she not celebrate your daughter's birthday by giving her gifts and wishing her happy birthday, does she only expect people to tell her happy birth giver's day? If this woman is, for instance, a talk show host and she's at work, and she's talking about it being her daughter's birthday and saying that it's her birth givers day that's a little bit different than insisting that everybody celebrate her. She's just probably saying it in a joking manner.

I know right - Mother's Day (although every day should be) is a great day for honouring mothers. Let the child have their birthday . And I agree with toasting - to you and your hubby , cheers ;)

I've told my teens sometimes I should get the presents for giving birth to them. Grin They do not agree, so I have to buy them stuff.

That's a joke though, and I wouldn't really think to celebrate my giving birth to them. It's a bit weird!

Shes an instagram influencer - but I actually looked it up , this is actually a thing. I never heard of it . according to urban dictionary Giving birth-day When a mother wants some recognition for giving birth to her child on their subsequent Birthdays. Wife: I deserve a present because it's my giving birth-day. Happy Giving Birth-day.

LOL well yes you do deserve presents but yes it is a bit weird. Should the father then also have a day celebrating his ejaculation ? sorry if crude but we could just go down an endless rabbit hole with this line of thinking.

I mean it could be a thing if that was the culture. I’d say we celebrated a person’s name day (like their patron saint) as they do in some cultures, instead or as well as the birthday.

But our culture is that birthdays belong to that person, and we have a separate Mother’s Day to recognise giving birth- and all the subsequent hard work!

Can you name her or is that not allowed? I can just about imagine her account all soft pastels, big hair and beaming clones.

I think I've just had this article come up on Facebook...

As I got older I always thanked my Mum on my birthday for doing excellently Grin and apologised for how much it hurt.

But of course it's not acceptable to make your child's birthday about you, even if you remember it well...!

That's very sweet of you ! But yes I'm sure your Mom would have been horrified if you wished her a Happy Birth Giving Day, I know my mum would and I definitely know her mother would have hated that too. Just doesn't make sense.
