biscuiteers-totally overrated?

hellosally · 03/02/2022 18:46

I decided to treat myself to a gingerbread man from biscuiteers in selfridges £6.99, as I've always wanted to try them. yes its quite nicely designed, packaging very average, and tastes not as good as an upmarket supermarket offering.
Am I just being miserable or justifiably let down? all the reviews raving over them saying the recipients loved them, were they just being polite as thats what I would have said if it was a gift!

I agree. They are beautifully iced but the biscuits themselves are rubbish.

Inmypjsagain · 03/02/2022 18:50

I agree- I thought they were a nice thing to be sent because they look nice and it’s a bit different, then I got sent some and was really disappointed with the flavour.

Hoppinggreen · 03/02/2022 18:50

I actually really like them.
They do look good and I expected them to not taste as good but they did so I ate them all

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 03/02/2022 18:51

The biscuits are beautifully detailed, but sadly for me they aren’t the best tasting. However, their mince pies, were fabulous, although £££’s.

underneaththeash · 03/02/2022 18:51

My kids/husband weren't impressed either. We got a tin for free at Christmas and I ended up binning them.

TokyoSushi · 03/02/2022 18:52

Beautiful biscuits, taste horrible!

marplemead · 03/02/2022 18:54

No way would I pay that much money for biscuits, but I was pleased to receive a box as a gift. They were beautifully decorated and tasted nice enough (I much prefer shortbread). My DH, however, said they were the best biscuits he'd ever tasted. So I guess other people must think that too.

HelloFrostyMorning · 03/02/2022 18:55

YABVVVU for spending seven quid on a gingerbread man! FFS. Hmm

Is this some kind of stealth brag? Confused

DaffodilDandilion · 03/02/2022 18:55

I had a freebie from them when Meghan and Harry had their first baby. I thought it was yummy!

hellosally · 03/02/2022 18:56

its just...£7- for a BISCUIT!!. wont be doing that again in a hurry especially after all the bad finance news today

They're like macarons. Look very pretty but taste underwhelming.

usrbingrl · 03/02/2022 18:58

Fortnums and Bettys do a much nicer effort at that pricing.

Totally this

I never get the fuss about macarons - they can be good but they are always pricey in comparison to other things

A gorgeous almond croissant
A lovely ham and cheese croissant
Cinnamon whirl

Can you tell I was looking at the French pastry bloke of godness just about to open at the Berkeley ?

hellosally · 03/02/2022 19:00

not a stealth boast-I wish! the cupcake counter would have been cheaper and MUCH nicer, January was a bit of a miserable month and february isnt seeming any better so wanted a little treat!

I like them! I get them reasonably often as a gift from a particular friend and enjoy them Smile

Suprima · 03/02/2022 19:02

I got some as a present- looked lovely but tasted vile.

I can demolish a pack of biscuits however bland- it’s very rare I throw anything away!

Hugasauras · 03/02/2022 19:03

And I wouldn't buy them just for myself as they are occasion biscuits really, you're paying for the decoration and the wow factor as a gift, and the presentation with the little gift boxes etc.

Blackmagicqueen · 03/02/2022 19:05

Im always disappointed with most bought baked goods so bake most things myself. It is surprising how easy these things are to make and so much nicer than bought ones.

bindud · 03/02/2022 19:11

I like the normal biscuits & they are so pretty but way too expensive. I just use the recipe & make not so pretty ones.

bindud · 03/02/2022 19:12

I love pistachio macarons

NatriumChloride · 03/02/2022 19:14

YANBU, OP. They taste of cardboard! However they do look very pretty and the tin is gorgeous too - I received some as a gift on the birth of DS and no one bothered finishing the biscuits - unheard of in my house!

Isonthecase · 03/02/2022 19:37

They're absolutely awful, mediocre tasting and the customer service is shocking. I ordered some allergy specific ones for a Christmas present in September and they didn't even post them, I only found out when I emailed them to say they were a couple of days late just before Christmas and they gave me a cheery, whoopsy daisy, have a refund, without even an apology. Too late to replace by then so the family member didn't get any nice treats on Christmas Day. Not what I expected for the price.

hellosally · 03/02/2022 19:42

so its sounds like style over substance wins! I prefer something that tastes nice over how it looks so its got me in the mood for some home baking.I think that will be a lot more therapeutic

I've just googled and realised I was given a box of those last year as a gift. They were beautiful but tasted so stale. No idea they were so expensive

Or brownies. People rave about brownies delivered for about £20 a time, when they're one of the easiest cake to make and you could make your own for under a fiver.
