Was this reasonable of nursery?

Nursery called me to pick up child as they had a temperature of 37 and he's not 'quite himself' .

I think that's unreasonable as that's not considered a high temperature?

I had made them aware that baby had a bit of a cold but was recovering. When I brought him home he was absolutely fine! Didn't have a temperature at all ( checked, just below 37).

I think babies are allowed to be a bit under the weather and their job is to accommodate that with in reason. AIBU?

Nonsense to suggest a child can't go to nursery if they're "a bit under the weather" (i.e. have a cold or are a bit grumpy but more or less fine). D&V? Stay home. Fever? Stay home. Lethargic or inconsolable? Stay home. But a runny nose? Fine.

My DD has been going to nursery three days a week since August and has had maybe five days out for illness. In that time she has had a virtually constant cold. The staff know that it's completely normal when a child starts nursery and aren't phased by a bit of snot!

OP, your nursery were ridiculous for sending your child home with those "symptoms".
@hugr So you expect people to keep their child at home every time when their only symptom is a runny nose for example? 🥴 Again, there would be no children in nurseries if they would be that strict.
I expect people to keep their children home with a symptomatic cold yes. Because 1-2 days off with your child could stop people with children like mine (immunocompromised) having to take 1-2 weeks off instead.

Always surprises me how many people genuinely think that nursery staff fake the children being ill to cover ratios Hmm why would you send your child to a nursery if you thought they would lie about something like that as surely you'd be questioning what else they are lying about?! Crazy

No they shouldn't of sent him home for a normal temp, you should have questioned it on the phone. I'm thinking he was probably not himself and it was just not communicated clearly enough. But it's not unusual for children to perk up a bit when their parents arrive.

We are not talking about an illness. We are talking about a cold and a mild one at that!*

I presume that you'd already done a lft for that mild cold?

Also we test every week, extremely unlikely it's covid.

I'm not sure testing once a week means you'll always know an illness isn't covid.

Due to high numbers and PHE advise we were testing daily. I went to work after a negative test in the morning. Felt a bit warm and headachy by the afternoon. Tested at home 9-10 hours later and I was very much positive.

It's always difficult with little ones. They can seem poorly one minute and fine the next, and vice versa.

But you know your child's nursery. If you think they are sending children home who are fine, and you don't believe their judgement calls, maybe it's time to monitor if it's happening a lot. If so, is it the right nursery?

Generally we test weekly symptom or not. This last week with baby's cold and obviously he gave it to us, we have been testing every other day to make sure it's not covid. So far we are testing negative.
