Post Covid syndrome in children

We all had Covid at Christmas and since myself and my DD have had some relapses. But it is particularly bad in my DD. She has frequent episodes of nausea, bad stomach pain, heart burn and exhaustion. She is also still very congested. We went to the doctor's yesterday. He said her stomach was inflamed. He is testing for something that could cause it but he thinks it is most likely Post Covid syndrome and should clear up in the next 2 months.

The trouble is she has already had so much time off school this term. Probably a day or 2 every week. She has also been sent home from school a couple of times. She is so upset as she loves school. I suggested to the doctor her skipping PE until half term as she gets very tired from it. He said it could help but exercise helps with lethargy. Any ideas of how to manage this? I want to speak to school with some kind of plan so she can miss the least amount of school.

How old is she?

@Redarrow2017

No sorry but my six year old is the same and being told it takes time to get over or fobbed off with growing pains/constipation etc as possibilities is now getting on my last nerve!
Sorry your DC is suffering too.

Not me but a child at school has developed this after catching it in the first wave so he's a bit further down the line. The fatigue is being managed by a part-time timetable and I understand that they believe this digestive issues might be down to his having developed food intolerances? Might be something. To ask about.

Has anyone mentioned PIMS? Worth looking up to exclude. A child in my town is quite ill just now with this, presented as appendix after covid and now very very ill :(

My 9 year old DD is just the same. Covid over Xmas, and now episodes of nausea and tiredness. She's still managing her usual sports etc but has missed school with tummy ache and faintness 3 or 4 times since Jan. I was going to see if I could get her docs appt this week coming, and certainly will now. Thanks for sharing. I hope your DD feels better soon.

Have you had a look at this site? Link theres a lot of really useful information.

My son 6 had covid at Christmas too and has really been struggling. The dr confirm trauma. Initially he suffered a lot from stomach pain but that has eased down a lot. I hope your child starts feeling better too.
