I was just looking for two pens that were on the sofa with my diary when I went to bed last night. Today I couldn't find them. I took everything off of the sofa, looked under the sofa, around it, checked the study, my bedroom, kitchen... even called DH to ask if he knew where they were.

After searching the house I have sat down on the sofa and the three pens are on the arm of the sofa where I left them yesterday. The pencil case (yes I have a pencil case) that I searched is right next to them.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened but it's one where I KNOW they were not there half an hour ago.

Glitch in the matrix

Chocomelon · 04/02/2022 11:43

There was a glitch in the matrix thread recently with similar happenings

WalkingDownTheOnlyRoad · 04/02/2022 11:56

Oooo. Inception situation with a bad architect.

But for some reason I have been carrying a handful of pens around my home instead of using a pencil case (of which we have empty ones a plenty) so thanks for that inspiration, OP. Hadn’t even occurred to me to use a pen i case 🙄

I once thought a banana had disappeared. I had put it down on top of a marigold glove.

Happens to me sometimes. It is irritating though. Just some kind of weird glitch type thing I think .

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/02/2022 12:07

It’s the continuity innit?

Zeflyinghelmetandzevetcelery · 04/02/2022 12:14

I have a lucky charm that does this from time to time. The longest was when it vanished for a couple of years around 6 years ago then turned up in my handbag where it belongs. It's missing again, turned my handbag practically inside out and there's no sign of it but I'm sure it'll reappear in its own good time.

I need to hire a van at the weekend, I have been looking for my driving license for 2 weeks. Even got the rest of the household looking, searched everywhere. Sorted out the drawers while I was at it. Opened kitchen drawer for a pen this morning, and driving license is sitting there 🤷‍♀️

We lost our car keys on holiday. We looked everywhere... the car park, the hotel, the room, our bags... had to get a car locksmith out.

8 months later when we moved house, I was unpacking a suitcase and saw a wierd lump in the lining. The lost keys.

We had both turned that bag inside out on holiday. We had used it for several other trips too.

UndertheCedartree · 04/02/2022 12:33

I call it the Pixies! It is so wierd.

Can honestly say this is never happened to me.

I've had things go missing from my house with no explanation, but unfortunately they've never turned up.

Chichimcgee · 05/02/2022 01:19

So my perfectly logical theory is that there are splits through space and time, another dimension version of @Chocomelon picked up the pens but to avoid a paradox and the universe imploding things shifted to replace the pens back in this dimension.

We were going mental looking for a freezer bag that we usually take camping. It's a decent size and we lived in a 2 bed flat at the time, and it's very hard to leave anything behind camping, so infuriating.

On arrival at campsite, unrolled the tent and the freezer bag was inside.

boatyardblues · 05/02/2022 07:25

I bought a new watch before Christmas. I took it off before my shower about 10 days ago, then couldn’t find it. I searched our bathroom top to bottom, same in our bedroom including shaking out all the laundry in case it had gone into the basket in a pyjama leg. I looked EVERYWHERE. I opened my underwear drawer yesterday morning and it was lying on top my underwear in plain sight. 🤔

Spookier still my previous watch went missing from the bathroom in the same way. That was at the start of the first lockdown and we were isolating so we didn’t leave the house, nor have visitors. I also lost a chunky silver ring that I took off in the bathroom. It is my Bermuda triangle.

liveforsummer · 05/02/2022 07:29

This happens to me from time to time. Just this week looked for ds's laptop bag where I knew it was, when it wasn't there searched the room including chalking back where I thought it was. No luck. Yesterday while looking for something else laptop bag is sitting there right where I thought it was all along. Similar with an envelope full of euros that then didn't make it on holiday. Found them a few months later exactly where I knew I'd left them and had checked many times

@GreenerWithTheScenery

This happens to DH ALL the time! He looks in the cupboard for something, it's not there. I look in the cupboard and there is it! Right at the front.

I think we have a poltergeist....

This happens to us and it's definitely a DH problem 😂
ShowOfHands · 05/02/2022 07:36

My 10yr old ds and 40yr old dh both can't see things in plain sight. I've watched them look for things right in front of them whilst exclaiming they aren't there. DH can even put his hand in a pocket looking for keys and not find them and they're definitely in there. In fact, mil does it too. It does seem to be an expectation thing rather than a blind spot. DH v regularly says "well it wasn't folded/inside its case/on the top of the pile/on the left so i couldn't see it".

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 05/02/2022 07:44

My DH had a brain injury a few years back and one of the long term impacts is that he doesn't process information from his peripheral vision. He only really notices the thing he's looking directly at.

It makes for a lot of these types of situations!

catwomando · 05/02/2022 07:52

I solved one of those mysteries this week in our house.

We have a detachable magnetic knob on our induction hob. It disappeared. We couldn't use the hob. Searched everywhere. In the washing , in cupboards and drawers, pockets, rubbish bin , everywhere.

Then I had a brainwave. I'd put a tin of cheese crackers on of the hob the night before. Got the tin out and the nob was stuck to it underneath.

Inanimate objects can be tricky little buggers and love a game of hide and seek. They especially like to play the hiding game when you are stressed or in a hurry. Little bastards.

I do like the idea @Howdoisawwithnosaw of another dimension, filled with colanders and the like. Very cool.

StormBaby · 05/02/2022 08:12

The ‘glitch in the matrix’ and the ‘man look’ are two very very different things.
