Bacterial infection on face. Ex worried I'll be late for the kids

I have what the doctor thinks could be a bacterial infection OR shingles on my forehead and my head is swollen, eyes, nose, all swollen. A big wound that's turned black has appeared from nowhere

Saw doc yesterday and prescribed antibiotics, today it's more swollen and one eye keeps going blurry and weird

Kids are at their dads for tea tonight, I was going to go to a&e to check it's not anything serious, kids dad is worried I won't be back in time to pick them up.

Lol. Guess my AIBU is whether I'm being selfish for wanting to be seen, being silly for thinking it could be something serious?

Has anyone else had something similar?

Definitely go and be seen but expect to be in there for quite a while.

Do you have any family that can take them home if their dad needs to go to work later on?

Need to be seen. Could be infectious to children as well.

Don't sort childcare for bedtime, make him do it. Go to A&E and leave it as his problem - they're his kids too and you're unwell. Tough titties Smile

My husband had something similar two weeks ago, I had never seen anything like it before. A red bump appeared on his forehead above left eye that gradually got redder and more swollen, then his cheek and neck started to swell. Went to a walk in centre, a skin infection apparently, prescribed some antibiotics which took a few days to take effect. Then forehead bump went purple and spotty and slowly disappeared. Dr had said if left would have impacted his vision. Definitely get it checked out asap. Good luck

Go to a&e I have had herpes infection on face which infected my eye, your eyesight is important, they where concerns about mine at the time. Get it checked out.

Brilliant, thank you for all the replies. I'll definitely get seen today. Just will have to sort childcare for bedtime as it's inconvenient for him.

A bit of reassurance that I'm not a self entitled arse is always helpful!

Get going now. Don't worry about childcare, he is their parent, time for him to parent. This is an emergency.

All sorted, he's said aslong as I'm there for the kids early tomorrow morning they can stay over if necessary.

I feel like I've worked myself into a panic about this infection business and I feel all anxious and my heart is racing. They'll more than likely send me away with the instruction to continue my antibiotics and give them a few days to work. I've just done too much googling today and made a mountain out of a mole hill.

I've been to a&e quite a few times over the years. It's always either "why have you come?" or "why didnt you come in sooner?" so dont worry about that. Go get seen. If it's nothing to worry about let them tell you, they're the doctors.

Go to A&E if it is shingles you will need antiviral medicine not antibiotics.

@cruelladevill You have an infection that is worsening and has the potential to make you very ill. How in Gods name would seeking medical attention make you an entitled arse?? I had shingles on my face a few years ago I felt dreadful. Go get seen xx

@Yaya26 because I'm saft! Haha. His replies always make me feel as though I'm being a burden, it's taken a long time and lots of steps back over the last few years to get a clear head.

It's way more swollen, could hardly open my eyes this morning.

The doctors at the hospital said the same as my GP, just to continue taking my antibiotics and go back if it doesn't get better in 5 days or so

The blurred vision was caused by the swelling apparently. BP etc was all fine.

I just have a headache from the pressure and a bit sickly because of the tablets but honestly other than that I'm fine Grin

I'm glad I went though! Google said I had the plague, gangrene AND sepsis 😂
