Urgent/Quick advice - misspelt someone’s name

Am I an absolute twonk (yes, yes I am)! Added someone to a WhatsApp group. Quite a few in group – not friendship.

Relatively new to the group myself so wouldn’t want to not impress if that makes sense. Added someone else, sent a message to the group saying I’ve added ‘misspelt name’ didn’t want it to seem random. Then to them personally letting them know I’d done it.

Misspelt the flaming name!! It’s an unusual’ish name with 2 possible spellings, one I know well, obviously they it the other way don’t they!
Person messaged me to apologise to say I’m so sorry I should have sent you my actual details and spelt my name as people often misspell it (think they are possibly just being kind).

They said they would introduce themselves formally at some point and apologise. Apologise for what me, I think they mean for not giving me the correct name rather than on my behalf, but surely that’s just weird?!? I’m crumbling already!

I HATE things like this, I feel so embarrassed. What do I do?? Say no, let me apologise, see what they say? Take the lead and apologise and on the group then message them privately to say, so sorry, I have apologised and corrected on the group?

I can’t even blame autocorrect as I misspelt it on the direct message to them.

I shorten my name and people spell it differently to how I do all the time - in fact vastly more people spell it wrong rather than right! It's mildly annoying at best (when it's someone who has seen how I write it probaly hundreds of times!) to a complete non-issue (someone who never saw it written down). I never remember. It's fine.

This is far from being an issue. I have a name that is not English in origin but well used and only has one correct spelling. People still get it wrong, but it's just one of those things. I very much doubt this person really cares and probably is more annoyed with themselves for not giving correct spelling to you, especially as there are 2 spellings. Forget and move on OP. It will be fine.

I have an unusual name, people misspell it quite frequently.

I'll either correct them (politely, obviously), or they'll notice and apologise, then we both move on with our day.

It is not a big deal.

I have a name which can be spelt two ways.

People frequently get it wrong. I don't care.

Thought it was going to be on a birth certificate...

I spelt my own sons name wrong in a WhatsApp the other day, I wouldn't stress over it!

It really isn’t anything that hasn’t happened to millions of people in the world
I was once named in a school production as “Given (surname)” admittedly I’ve never forgotten about it some 35 years on
