Anyone had concussion? Do I actually need a&e?

Think I have concussion. Bumped my head on a sharp corner Sunday evening, it left a dent but not a huge bump. Felt a bit funny afterwards and obviously it hurt but nothing massively unusual. Vision was a bit fuzzy initially. Ever since, I have been incredibly nauseous to the extent that I have taken two pregnancy tests (despite DH having had a vasectomy!) as it feels exactly like the start of hyperemesis. I still have a throbbing headache and feel very fatigued and a bit ‘off balance’. I only have the tiniest lump on my head, you’d probably just think I had a spot.

I phoned the GP this morning and they’ve said to go to a&e. I can’t see what a&e will do beyond say ‘yes, you’ve probably got a mild concussion, take it easy until you feel better’. Is there something else they’ll do or some other risks?

A&E will do tests and checks, and they might scan you. Go.

Bumps on the head are better than dents, I think, as they mean that the trauma has gone outwards, not into the skull.

My DM had bleed on the brain after hitting her head. We were told to prepare for the worst (she also had heart issues which would have caused problems if they needed to operate). Luckily, all was well.

Please get checked

I hit my head and face. I looked fine, well I thought I did. I had a headache though and I was very very grumpy and irritable - in a way that was abnormal for my usual self. I was sent to A&E, I thought it was a huge overreaction but they noticed my nose was wonky. I ended up needing surgery because it was completely fracture and dislocated. The surgeon said the bone was mushy.
So, moral of the story, get checked out!

I always think of poor Natasha Richardson with things like this too.

Hope you've been to A&E by now OP & all is well.

You asked your GP for advice. They told you to go to A&E. Just go.

YeOldeTrout · 03/02/2022 15:38

HOw are you now, OP?

Pinkpepper79 · 03/02/2022 15:40

Get medical advice ASAP concussion can lead to compression which can in some cases be fatal. I have just completed a 1st aid course

@Motnight

Really Op? You are asking a bunch of random people whether to take the advice of a medical professional?
One of the signs of concussion can literally be people not being able to reason or make safe or sensible decisions.

The most recent time I was concussed, I knew I had concussion but thought it was really really funny that nobody at work knew (I’m a teacher!) and that I couldn’t remember the children’s names Blush. And I didn’t go to a+e for several days, even though I also had fractured ribs and sternum.

I have also had to stop a friend from getting on and riding their horse. The fact they didn’t seem aware that that particular horse of theirs wasn’t yet broken to ride was one of the giveaways that things were not quite right.

People making out of character, rash decisions now always makes me thing ‘potential tbi’

I have had concussion and still
Suffer post concussion syndrome 3 months on. Dizzy, fuzzy headed, forgetful, headache, off balance, nauseous, can't sleep, tearful and irritable.

I'd go to be checked out.
