To want to try a kneeling chair

I have a bad back and want to try kneeling chair as I wfh all the time now. DH thinks it's a fad and I'll get sick of it within a week, doesn't want to get one cos they're not cheap.

Any experiences of them? Do they help? Are they annoying? TIA

I got one about 18m ago when fully WFH and love it. So much more comfortable than my old office chair. Don't get as much back pain as I did.

Love mine! I had the same opinion as your DH and resisted getting one for years, but my back was causing such an issue I was prepared to take the risk.
It took me a few weeks to get used to it (knees etc) so just build up the time, just feels natural now though.

Just to jump on this thread - can anyone recommend a brand/style of kneeling chair? Looking to order one on Amazon as am abroad. Key features needed?
You are jumping on a thread that you started!

@RoyKentsChestHair is your kneeling stool still available? I may live in your area...

I had a kneeling chair in the office, and used it regularly, but couldn't use it for a whole day (as I got tired, I would slouch, but that did force me to get up & walk around). Also, I put a folded towel on the 'shin rest' otherwise it hurt.

OP, I agree that the 'tabletop' desk risers work well - I got one from Amazon & use it regularly. I know a colleague tested the principle of working standing up by resting her laundry basket upside down on the table & putting her laptop on that!

I had one for a while.

Turns out I can still slouch whatever I'm sitting on! Must be a gift...

We used to have one. If I spent too long on it, I ended up numb from the knees down. I was glad when it broke and we got a proper office chair.

tttigress · 20/04/2022 23:36

I have used one, but found the pressure on my legs to be too unconformable!

Probably your best bet is making sure your posture is always right with a normal chair / desk, having the monitor at the right height is important (getting in the habit to check regularly)

Or using a standing desk, but standing all day is actually pretty unconformable / tiring.

Any views about which of these might be best? Or other?

I'd go for the one over £100 with more padding on the knee rest. It also has over 2000 reviews and 4.5 stars. So seems best bet to me...

CorsicaDreaming · 21/04/2022 09:24

@thesnaleandthewhail - you might also want to consider this chair. I bought mine several years ago in the sale having never really got on with proper office chairs and it has been brilliant for me. I have suffered really bad backs over the years and now often WFH too, and find this is so comfortable and I can sit on it all day. I appreciate it's not cheap, but there again if you buy the wrong chair and have to buy another one you could end up spending more. It's tricky without trying them out. Which isn't v practical to go and work in the showroom for the day!

It may well be there are alternatives like this one that would work just as well but this is the one I've got...

That said I do think you need to be mindful to get up and walk about every hour (even if just to make a coffee) and try to fit in at least a 30 minute walk every day or back issues just keep coming back. Lotion is motion as my acupuncturist told me!

My kneeling chair is made by Varier. It rocks as you sit - I can work for hours comfortably. It is a lot of £ but have had for years and just bought my son one for Uni. I think the rocking action is key (moving your core) - some of the cheaper ones are solid on the floor.

Did anybody snap up your kneeling chair?
