What would you do? Neighbour yellling at dog

I say neighbour, it’s a man who lives a street away so our gardens back onto each other’s. I’ve heard him about four times now in the past few months shouting at his dog in a horrible aggressive way, bear in mind these are large gardens so he is quite far away. “Get the fuck in NOW!!!” I haven’t done anything because I just assume there no evidence of physical abuse nothing will happen but is getting really distressing to hear this poor thing getting yelled at

Reading back it doesn’t sound too bad (??) but it’s a very agressive tone, swearing and just like he’s on a power trip. It’s horrible.

Eugh. Horrible.

You will get post after post saying report to council, RSPCA etc.

Nobody will do a damn thing and it sucks.

RSPCA won't do ANYTHING as presumably it has shelter, food and water.

Council won't do anything as it's not an antisocial behaviour problem.

Awful Sad

XenoBitch · 01/02/2022 19:38

My neighbour is like with their dog too. Is a mum and teen lad. Both get home from school/work and absolutely scream at the dog for daring to not hold his bladder all day. He also howls all the time when they are out.
RSPCA wont do much if they are fed and watered.

GettingThemFromHereToThere · 01/02/2022 19:39

Could you post an anonymous letter, saying you've heard him verbally abusing the dog and suggest some anger management?

Are there enough neighbours to make it anonymous?

There's no one who will help, but maybe he'll keep himself in check if he knows people are noting it?

cushioncovers · 01/02/2022 19:43

Record it. And let the RSPCA have the recordings. I remember watching a show where someone recorded a neighbour continually abusing a puppy over several days from their upstairs window and sent it to the RSPCA. The RSPCA had to act as the footage was sent to them and the police.

Essexmummy88 · 01/02/2022 20:04

I think the anonymous letter is what I’ll do, thanks for the suggestion I hadn’t thought of it. I have no clue what he looks like and he has no clue who I am either so it won’t bring any trouble

If no change after that I will record, it’s hard because I only ever catch it on the off change I’m in the garden and have my phone on me but I don’t don’t there will be a next time

That's horrible what's the point in having a dog and treating it like that, definitely anonymous letter that's a good idea .

Imissmoominmama · 01/02/2022 20:11

I’m not sure an anonymous letter is a good thing. If he has a temper, me might take it out on the dog, out of earshot.

I think recording him and sending it to the RSPCA and police would be more effective.

Happenchance · 01/02/2022 20:14

I would try recording him. I wouldn't send an anonymous letter because that could just make him save the abuse until they're behind closed doors. Or worse still, it could piss him off and make him physically take it out on the dog.

Does he have a partner and/or kids?

TyrannosaurusRegina · 01/02/2022 20:20

He's raised his voice at his dog 4 times in a few months? Aren't you maybe overreacting a little?

Essexmummy88 · 01/02/2022 20:40

No I’m not overreacting, it’s every time I hear him. Please take your oh so chilled views elsewhere

Essexmummy88 · 01/02/2022 20:46

I don’t know for sure if he has a partner and kids but I assume so, I’ve heard him outside in the summer having a bbq with lots of kids making noise (not judging I have three of my own), also he lives in a 2/3 bed house so I Assume they’re a family. I won’t post a letter after reading some replies but I I am going to report tomorrow

I'd keep a diary and record stuff of poss. Rspca won't do shit but the more evidence you have the more chance for this poor dog . Thank you for caring. Most turn a blind eye regarding animals

Santahasjoinedww · 01/02/2022 21:07

I quite often call mine a fuckwit and to hurry up and get in!!

PeanutIceQueen · 06/04/2025 13:02

Doubt you are screaming it at the dog, theres a difference between saying "get in you fuckwit" or "hurry up and get in the house" and screaming "GET IN THE FUCKING HOUSE NOW YOU FUCKING TWAT" (literally heard last week from one of my neighbours)
