To be freaked out

I am not someone who believes in ghosts or the paranormal and I've never experienced anything I could put down to them before.

This morning I woke up for work, went to the loo. As I sat on the loo I watched my little girls door handle move down, up and back down again clearly, like she was opening the door on and struggling on the other side (she often does when she first wakes up and is half asleep). I called out to her and opened her door to find her snoring in her bed.

AIBU to feel slightly freaked out at this?

It's quite possible that she was sleepwalking.

Astressedmumoftwo · 01/02/2022 06:43

I went in seconds after it moved. She was fast asleep and tucked up quite tightly.

How old is she?
Could she have been pretending to be asleep?

icelollycraving · 01/02/2022 06:44

You’re going to hear Ring a Ring of Roses soon accompanied by the distant sound of laughter.

BusterGonad · 01/02/2022 06:45

That would freak me out too.

Astressedmumoftwo · 01/02/2022 06:49

She's 4. And possibly, but I literally opened the door seconds from when it last moved and she was snoring and tucked right in. I didn't hear any footsteps or anything as I usually would when she wakes up (she has a very loud tread) and she'd have needed to run and jump into bed to tuck herself in fast enough. Very weird

Hmmm. Very odd.
Continue to search for an explanation and try not to get freaked out.

janicewheeler · 01/02/2022 06:53

I would shit myself. Don't overthink it though !

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 01/02/2022 06:54

Time to move op Grin

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 01/02/2022 06:56

I'm a sleepwalker and used to really freak out my Mum. And then flatmates. And boyfriends.

Still do!

Just make sure she is safe and can't get out of the house (yup, done that too).

Astressedmumoftwo · 01/02/2022 06:56

I'm pretty sure even if I got dragged out of bed paranormal activity style my other half would just say I was seeing things. He'd never believe me he's so firmly against the idea of such things 🙄 definitely won't be moving. Maybe it can help with the housework as no one else does

I'd say it's this (my other child sleepwalks) but I honestly opened the door about four seconds from when I saw it move last. She'd have had to run to get back into bed that quickly and I heard no footsteps, I always hear footsteps as she's very loud..

Where was your other child, could they have been doing it and hidden from you?

SlashBeef · 01/02/2022 07:04

Are you very tired? I have had odd experiences when sleep deprived.

lightnesspixie · 01/02/2022 07:04

Odd

No, fast asleep in his room.

This has happened to me , though two of us watched it and there was nobody on the other side of the door. No explanation so I wonder if it can be some sort of mechanism in the door handle that goes crazy (it freaked us out too!).

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 01/02/2022 07:11

Honestly, a very similar thing happened with me and my Mum.

We'd just returned from staying at my grandparents. She thought I was lost and 'a ghost' as I 'floated' past the door (glass panels) then was tucked up in bed by the time she ran upstairs. I was fast asleep.

Hope your little one has a good rest and I hope you're not too freaked out.

SeeminglyOblivious · 01/02/2022 07:12

I'd say it was more likely to be you than your dd considering she was asleep and tightly wrapped up.

Had you literally just woken up? Tired/sleep deprived?

I've sat for a wee many times 30 seconds after waking, still a bit sleepy and spaced out.

You saw something you often see and were maybe subconsciously expecting...add in tiredness/ sleep befuddlement and it might have been your mind playing tricks on you.

Astressedmumoftwo · 01/02/2022 07:58

I'd had 9 hours sleep so not deprived, but yes had not long woke up (within a few minutes)

I can remember giving my children a bath years ago when something hit the other side of the door really hard. We all heard it.
