To ask you how long I should expect to be stuck in the car park for? (Broken down)

I’ve broken down in the Tesco carpark. I’m a bloody idiot who left my lights on (new driver and old car). I’m so angry at myself. Breakdown said it would be five hours but have put us down as having a medical priority as I have my 10 month old DD so said it should be quicker than that. What are the chances of getting home before midnight? I’m so bored and DD is getting fussy 😩

Oh, I don't know but have you told Tesco you are there? Partly in case there is a max stay time on the car park and partly as they might be helpful if you need anything for the baby.

Akire · 31/01/2022 19:48

5h! Can’t you get a taxi home/get the bus then arrange pick up tomorrow where you can jump Start the battery.

Greenbluestar · 31/01/2022 19:49

@OddBoots
Oh good idea! Didn’t even think of that. Thank you

Can you sweet talk a couple staff to help you jump start it? Only needs to be rolling a little sometimes!

Simonjt · 31/01/2022 19:50

Is it a big tesco? If so if you ask they may make an announcement over the tannoy for someone with jumps/a charger. Worth a shot.

DrSophia · 31/01/2022 19:50

I don't think that you'll be the highest priority due to your location.

Can you not ask if anyone has jump leads? In fact if it's a huge supermarket they may sell them. I would imagine that people would help you if they realised. Ask the customer services team to do a tannoy announcement for someone with jump leads?

I hope you get home soon

Greenbluestar · 31/01/2022 19:50

@Akire
Bus no, taxi maybe depending on how long we have to wait

Why are you posting on here instead of asking Tesco staff for help? They will have seen this all before.

KittensTeaAndCake · 31/01/2022 19:52

5 hours? That's ridiculous. Yes you only need a jump start.
Go inside Tescos and ask for help.

RusholmeRuffian · 31/01/2022 19:53

Somebody will have jump leads! Ask at customer service or just ask anyone who parks near you. Make sure you buy some and keep them in your boot for next time. This has happened to me loads over the years but I always had jump leads and never struggled to find a helpful passer by.

Jesusmaryjosephandtheweedon · 31/01/2022 19:55

Definitely alert tesco staff them may have jump leads or give you a push to start. Flat battery is easily solved if someone has a set of jump leads. And if I were you I'd keep a set in my car if its prone to a dead battery.

Once you get it started give it a good run. If you run it for 5 minutes home it'll be dead again tomorrow. Needs a recharge.

KittensTeaAndCake · 31/01/2022 20:03

As well as jump leads there's also a battery charger pack you can buy. My DD has one for her old banger car. You charge it in a normal plug and keep it in the car for when you need a jump start and you don't have to ask anyone else for help!!! (You connect the blk/red leads to your car, turn it on and start the engine). No good for now obviously but worth buying one for the future if your car is prone to getting a flat battery. Halfords sell them for about 40 quid.

Greenbluestar · 31/01/2022 20:10

Went in Tesco and got help. Thanks. You guys rock.

If you are with RAC you will get a text asking you to just wait another 30mins for an update… for the next 6 hours.

Thanks.. I’ll look into that.

I’m home now thank goodness. I went and asked at customer service and one of the staff had jump leads. I wasn’t thinking clearly as I was so stressed.. sometimes posting can help sort out my jumbled thinking.

Glad you're home safe, OP.

MyAnacondaMight · 31/01/2022 21:02

Get one of the battery packs. They’re £50, easy to use, and worth every penny - this won’t be your only time. They’re also a handy torch and phone charger.

@Greenbluestar well done and nothing wrong with asking the hive mind for support! Staff sound lovely x

Jesusmaryjosephandtheweedon · 31/01/2022 22:03

Glad to hear it. Mind yourself and invest in some jump.leads/battery pack.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 31/01/2022 22:09

I always have jump leads - if tannoyed or asked would be happy to help - I'm paying it on from the time a kind man helped me at a filling station (after the sexy looking cashier asked him for me) - not sure how I can pay it on for her but it was kind of her too.
