If someone starts selling stuff on Facebook and has a page on there, starting to make lots of money in addition to their already well paid job, does it need to be registered?
Do they need to have a company registered or do anything with tax?
Dhs SIL is doing this and he thinks fraud of some kind.
I thought there was an amount you could earn before having to formally do anything in terms of tax or registration of anything.
He's really angry about it and on the verge of saying something or reporting, I think he's going to look really silly.
Can I just show him, who would report this and who would leave alone?

So, out of spite he wants to put her back in her place? She's making some cash and because he doesn't like her he wants to find a way to screw her over...Jealousy is such an ugly character flaw. Don't even pretend that it's got anything to do with being a law abiding citizen Hmm

Out of interest, what’s she selling? Has she joined an MLM scheme? If so, she’ll be making FA, a loss, and HMRC won’t be interested.

YouokHun · 31/01/2022 13:40

Just about to say what @BSintolerant says. It sounds like MLM. If so then shes likely to ultimate lose more money than she makes and the element of fraud will be found in what the MLM takes from her through its deceptive practices.

If it’s not MLM and a turnover of more than £1k (from memory) she’d need to declare it but that’s her affair. He’d be better off using his energy to sort out his own anger as that level of rumination sounds pretty unhealthy.

At worse it’s tax evasion, not sure how it would be fraud

He will look silly as well as petty and spiteful.

Nothing to see here.

Just because you lack the drive to to make life life a bit comfortable doesn't you have to grass up some who does.

Like you said she has a proper job so will be paying tax that way.

Just because you lack the drive to to make life life a bit more* comfortable doesn't you have to grass up some who does.

If you resell your own stuff you don't have to register.

If you are purchasing items specifically to sell, or making items, then the threshold is 1K.

It's very easy to register and put in tax returns and the personal tax free amount you can earn is about 11k per year (can't remember exact amount).
